What is a crop ? A flower ? Than the answer is no , it takes 3-5 years (here) to have a flowering bananaplant (no bananatree , that's wrong
) My collegue from my work moved for his job to Dubai , he had bananas in 3 months .Here 1 of my flowers I had after 4 years "hibernation " .

They have zones here too ; I have to check .
Musa Basjoo is not a banana to eat .Just for decoration .

That's nice! The tortoises must love it!! My tortoises (Gopherus agassizii) just get what grass and few weeds they graze, what mulberry leaves they can reach, and a hibiscus flower here and there. I usually plant some flowers such as verbena and petunias for them in the spring, and they mow those down to nothing quickly.

Than you must go for Dwarf Cavendish ( from the Canary Islands Spain I think ) or the real Banana's used for consumption ( the ones they use for Chiquita or so ) .
I use to go to the Flee Market at Daytona the weekend from the show . There is a large variety of exotic plants too .

We need a /salute smilie. Great flower and a great meaning. Unfortunately it's another plant that wouldn't work in our shade. I bought a big bag of them and tossed seeds all over the bed. Got sprouts, some of which (maybe 5) are still with us as tiny plants in their second spring, but not anything near ready to flower.
As to the bananas, there are so many edible varieties, they're almost like potatoes, in the hundreds. But nobody has heard of most of them because of the success of the Cavendish. I heard that on the radio, not that I've tried any..

We have a little like 8'X8' garden out back, with cucumbers, green beans, sugar snap peas, tomatoes, sweet peppers, hot peppers, parsley, carrots, lettuce, collared greens, broccoli, onions, and strawberries. How we manage to fit all that in there is beyond my comprehension.
