When do snakes poop?

So I've been pooped on twice in the past 2 weeks. Of course I would like to avoid in the future so how do you know when a snake is about to poop?
 
They have a huge bulge right in front of the tail, on the underside. If you have a snake out crawling on the floor and it raises its tail up- that's a good sign. You have about 30 seconds to get to the sink with it!

It could be I usually just hold off on handling until they have a good poo haha (usually 2-3 days after a meal) as some snakes get spiteful and will hold it till you hold them :-D
 
The one time Vern pooped on (well, near - she missed) my son, I noticed that about 5-10 seconds before the poop came out the area around the vent started pulsing, as if she was working it to the door.
 
Also something to rember is the snake will lift its tail and if it can hang it off your hand (atleast my hatchling does) as they would really rather avoid getting poo on themselves so don't get under them if they start hanging their tail off and lifting it up haha.
 
In addition, corn snakes will also musk...
I have never been "pooped" on, but One of my hatchlings have musked me...

It sometimes look like poop, and it stinks...

30 seconds? I should be so lucky... the tail lifts up and 2 seconds later me / the floor/ my bed etc is covered in poop! I never have time to life them, when I've noticed the tail its already too late!
 
I always gauge how close mine are to pooing when I take them out to be handled...if they are very close, I usually take them out and let them have a pooh on the lawn (if it's daytime)...one less pooh I have to clean up later! lol

If it's dark outside and I see they are close to poohing, I usually put them back! lol
 
I get it when I handle them as well... some snakes are more consistent about it than others. My snow girl, Isis, makes the BIGGEST piles of it when I handle her. She usually crawls down to the floor and then piles it up right next to me . My poopers usually slow down or stop moving completely before they poo all over so, I use that as a cue to grab the nearest poo vessel, usually the trash can.
