Hey all. I was just wondering when people choose to weigh their snakes. How often do you weigh them? Do you find advantages to weighing at a certain time?

Well I do Nagini's "official" weight for the month right before her first feeding of the month.
But I got her in the beginnning of a month so that's why I do it.

Other than that I weigh her before every meal or just whenever I take her out, I just like using my scale.

I weight my snakes whenever I go to the vet for a check up. Which is like every couple of months, so that's the only way I keep track of weight on my animals.

Every couple of monthes, give or take a few.. Of course the snakes are empty when they are weighed.. Before brumation and after brumation is a for sure for the adults, and the youngings are here and there on empty..

Regards.. Tim of T and J

I weigh every 2nd or 3rd feeding but as my snakes grow it will probably become less frequent. I just put the feeding container, including food, on my digital scale and zero it, add snake and voila!

For my hatchlings this year I weighed before every second feeding. That's every 8 days. I was taking length measurements too, but I got lazy :) and desided that I di9dn't need those so often.

As for my adults, I try to weigh them every month. It gives me a good idea of how they are doing, and that's all I need, so I don't see any reason to do it more often.

I weigh the snakes on the first feeding day of each month, any more frequently and I'd be worrying too much!

I weigh mine after they shed, but I only just got my scale... maybe I am doing it wrong! :grin01:

I've really gotten away from weighing any of my snakes. I don't really find the info useful anymore. I've been doing this long enough that I've developed an "eye" for when to worry and when not to, the rest is just unnecessary details. The only time I ever weigh my snakes is when one has gotten so big that I think, "Dang, that thing is so huge I have to see how much it weighs just for $!*$ and giggles".

:noevil:

I only have 6 -- and it's kind of become a habit for me now: begin defrosting mice, set-up scale & feeding containers, take out snake -- weigh -- feed...next! While the bugger is chowing, I take care of water bowls & spot clean, along with chart the snake's feeding date, weight & food. There is only one snake that I haven't weighed yet & that's because I don't have a big enough scale for him...but by just attempting to weigh him on my 500g scale today, he's off the charts. That was more than you asked to know, but...I'm tired.

I usually weigh my snakes before feeding. That allows me to pick a mouse that weighs about 10% of the snake's weight. Seems to make the snakes grow at a rather nice rate. My snakes eat every 5-8 days or so... "When they start to look hungry". :p As the snakes become older, I'll change to a smaller percentage to avoid getting little fatballs. ;D

I weigh mine just before I feed them, I think this is the best time to weigh them as, to my thinking, you will get the most accurate reading...they aren't full of food or poo that might boost their weight a bit! lol

I don't weigh everytime I feed though, maybe every second time. I do love playing with my scale though! hehehe

I always weigh before feeding, as it's more accurate.
I weigh my adults every 1-2 months.
My breeding females every 2 weeks during breeding season.
My juveniles once a month and hatchlings every 2nd feeding day.
