Wierd little snow thing

Velvet

Totally corn crazy!!!!
This little guy came out of my friends one clutch (there are three of them)...

The mother is an amber and the father is a caramel het hypo. Obviously mom and dad are both het anery and amel as well!!! lol Quite a shock as they are unrelated!!!!

So by my reckoning, these snow thingies are butter snows that are at LEAST het hypo, but they maybe hypo butter snows....lol

I am trying to convince my friend to let me have one! lol

There are also ambers and caramels in this clutch (so far, not all have hatched yet..)

WOW they are cool little snows.
Hope you will post some pics, because they will look fascinating I hope!
Greetings
Chris

Erm I think you got it wrong mate, from the pics they look like butters to me, which would make more sense. All the hatchings are positive to be caramels, just add the amel gene which runs a mock as it is... almost every single captive bred corn nowdays is het for it :)

If you will look at the heads in the picture, you can see the faint yellows. I believe that as they mature they will develop a more distinct yellow tint.

Snows in general are pink, not yellowish, upon hatching.

Personally I'd be really happy- I'd take a butter over a snow every day of the week

After re reading your post I am slightly adjusting my words.
You know they are butters- great.
The Anery assumption is simply off key cause butters can resemble snows upon hatching.

Wait and see how they mature, but from this angle, they look like classic butters to moi.
The Hypo is of course impossible to detect as the amel neutralizes the phenotype

Well...my friend has hatched out HUNDREDS of butters and she insists these don't look like them...Obviously I haven't seen these in person so cannot comment. But she did mention that the colour in the pics was off..

There is also a ghost-looking caramel thingie from this clutch...

She said these are pink/coral in colour...more like coral snows than butters...

Guess time will tell eh? lol

Some better pics ...

Three of the strange coloured "snows" have hatched, and 3 strange coloured "ambers" or "caramels". I say "strange" because they don't resemble any of my other ambers that hatched from one of the other clutches, and the amel thingies are very different to any of my butters or snows from other clutches. The Ambers (or caramels?) are rather strange looking, but it's very difficult to capture their natural colours in photographs.

And some more ...

These are some of the little ambers (or caramels?) that hatched. The amel in this pic seems to resemble a light coloured butter, but the other 2 are a lot more pink in colour.

Look, I am all pro-benefit, I mean- I will be really happy for you if they end up being butter snows.
To me they seem like many butter hatchlings but I have yet to see them live... also if they haven't gone through their first shed yet... you should wait and see how they will turn out after that.
As I understand it, you are comparing these guys to butters from other couplings- that may prove to be a bad basis of comparison.

Anyways, I really hope these are snow-butters :)

Thanks for the comments. They may well turn out to be butters - it's the first time I've breed with this particular pair, so I have no way of knowing. It's just always exciting opening the tub and seeing something a bit strange hatching, lol! But I'm well aware of the fact that they could colour up a lot more after their first shed (These are only 1 day old). Anyway, I'll take some more pics once they all shed - I'm sure they'll have more of their colour by then.

Thanks again!

Some more from the same clutch ...

When I got home from work, I found this little one freshly hatched ... and he appears to have an even stranger look. At first glance he looks like a ghost, but when I looked at him in better lighting, he's got a strange pinkish glow to him. Whatever he is, I think he's really pretty.:licklips:

They could be really light butters, or butters where the color hasnt came in all the way yet, that happens with the amel gene at times.. They are really pretty though.. Maybe they will be more yellow butters..

Any idea what the strange "ghost" coloured one could be? None of the ambers or caramels that hatched from this clutch look like caramels or ambers ... not quite sure what's going on here? Especially the one in the last pics - he's very strange looking for a caramel or amber?

All I see are butters, caramels and that last one is an amber. There are NO snows, amels, anerys or ghosts pictured. Once they have all shed, you'll see a difference, and even more as they get a little older. Caramels can be confused with anerys when first hatched, and some butters can be very light at hatching, but I have hatched out enough butters and caramels to recognize them when I see them. Congrats on an awesome clutch!

I decided to put one of my ambers from another unrelated clutch, and I can't believe how bright he is compared to the others. He stands out like a sore thumb, lol!

But it looks like that one has had at least one shed and the others are in blue. Sometimes it takes awhile for the colors to really show well. And if you don't want that clutch, just put them all in a box and ship them to Florida! ;)
