Wild Snake Identification

Merovingian

New member
Howdy guys.

I found this little guy in my yard this afternoon.

Was wondering if any of you knew what it was.

He is VERY small, maybe 4 inches. Obviously a fresh hatchling.

My guess is a harmless rat snake, but I want to make sure as I have small kids around.

He is a reddish brown with just a bit of grey flecking.

Thanks for the help.

Sure looks like a Storeria from what I can see-my first instinct was that it looks a lot like the redbellies I find here.

At first glance I thought it was a Brown Snake and after googling Brown Snake's I'm going to say I'm 90% sure that's what it is...They look different depending on where exactly they come from, but some of the pictures looked identical to this one.

Looking again at the photos there were some reddish ones. The ones here are pretty....well...drab They do have the distinct band on the head though.
