WOOOT BARRACK OBAMA

I kind of feel bad for him. He has overwhelming expectations to live up to and he is getting this kind of crap from his own party.

Even with all that, that's pretty squeeky clean by comparison to previous administrations.

I don't mind partisanship, or expect any different, but I'm pretty darn proud of our leaders if that's the best that can be brought against him with what we have to compare. Heck, he's even been his own harshest critic about the vetting of those guys. When was the last time you saw a President admit a mistake, let alone on several different networks the same day?
Sorry if my rep message rankled you a bit Mike, I actually thought you were being sarcastic with that link you posted about the heater..

No doubt! A president that can admit he made a mistake! I mean the last one...I'm not even gonna go there...

I agree Tom. I would however like to see issues like these folks had be a set disqualifying factor. It shouldn't even come down to the nominee having to step down. Not only for cabinet nominees but for any public official.

Well as a tax preparer, I can tell you owing back taxes on it's own is NOT that big of a deal. The IRS (As long as you admit your debt and your are communicating with them) will be REALLY lenient as far as allowing you plenty of time to pay. With Geitner (sp?) I don't think 30,000 or so is even worth mentioning- especially since he paid it as soon as he was made aware.

Daschle on the the other hand worried me quite a bit more as his tax error came out of what looks to have been dishonesty outright. Also I'm quite a bit more concerned with his having received 5 million bucks from special interest groups (YIKES! that ain't change, lol)..

So yeah I totally agree to some extent.. Certainly things aren't changed yet. What do you bet though, it's probably not easy to find people in our Senate without such problems, lol..

Just an FYI, I do think Obama is a hypocrite.

Finance secretary made an honest mistake and is not charged late fees, ect? If I make an "honest mistake" on my taxes this year and the IRS catches me in 3 years, do you think they will charge me? "But it was an honest mistake".

Double standards should not be allowed.

No I don't mean that double standards are allowed (or rather I don't think they should be). I mean that you overestimate the IRS response on owing back taxes. If the error is made without fraud it's not even illegal to owe back taxes. For you OR for a senator or for the head of Treasury. You'll pay penalties and interest for the mistake, but they won't send you to jail. In fact they'll let you go a LONG LONG time with payment arrangements etc.
(That's the Feds mind you, the State of California is just nasty if you owe them money..)

Geithner didn't have to.

How are you sure of that? I haven't seen that reported anywhere.

That would be absolutely wrong.

*Edit*

Looks like you're right they took a settlement. http://finance.senate.gov/press/Bpress/2009press/prb011309d.pdf
Ok, I didn't think of that, but that's fairly common too. The IRS does negotiate settlements quite often. We've done that for clients as well who are regular Joes.

I don't think they should have done that, but frankly, just so that the other side can't point to it, lol. That's not necesarily special treatment, but the perception that it is isn't worth the 10,000 or so (tops) that his penalties would have been.

Where is everyone getting jobs at now? According to Nancy Pelosi every month we go without them getting $920b to spend 500 million Americans lose their jobs. Last census shows the US population a little over 300 million. Hmmm not sure we trust her with the counting anymore. lol :headbang:

Hey Obama voters:

How do you feel about him and "his" congress pushing through the vote on the biggest socialistic law in American history SO FAST that the elected officials didn't even have time to read it before being told to vote on it? Hmmmm, most of the democrats voted FOR this biggest spending bill without knowing what they were even voting FOR. How does THAT make you feel? The ones that voted against it might have voted FOR it if they were given a chance to actually read it first.

Didn't Obama and "his" congress JUST promise not to vote on ANYTHING until it was available for people to read for at least 5 days....and then turn around and vote in almost immediataly thereafter this bill we will be paying off for generations in under 5 days. .....more like 5 hours! Come one - is anyone stupid enough to believe that a 4 day delay would have made any difference to the economy. Sure, it might have made more people vote against it, and I'm pretty sure that is why the vote was so rushed.

I'm not attacking Obama or Democrats. I'd disgusted with the speed in which promises were violated - especially for such a large bill with such great ramifications - and with the policy he has set in motion - or allowed to be set in motion - that was decided upon by people who had no real idea what they were voting upon.
