Well, i used to have an amazing hamster "stue" but one day he got out in the dirty clothes pile and mum washed him, anyways i would like another, since i kinda liked stue :p but would my tank being right next to "DamienS" viv not annoy him with the smell of hamster? also wont he try and bite me? or would it scare the hamster? please let me know asap : )

I would have to say it depends on the snake. If he is used to mice he will only respond to mice scent. He might be able to still smell the hampster. I would just try, but after a while I think damien would get used to it. Can you put the cage anywhere else? does it have to be right next to him?

I agree with Jimmy. This wouldn't be a big deal, but it's probably better if you can get a little distance between the two enclosures.

My pet rats are in the same room as my snakes. My snakes eat mice and never seemed particularly bothered that the rats were there. Well....except for that time my dumbo blue rex ratty boy Finale (RIP) found out that the snakes couldn't hurt him. I let him loose and he started running right in front of the snake cages. One of the snakes got agitated and struck the cage and I swear Finale was laughing and sticking out his tongue at them!

After that he had his "out time" in another room!

I used to keep my mice right next to my snakes, and it never seemed to bother either of them. I have since moved them away from each other, but this was a matter of convenience, not necessity...

If I were to keep rodents in a tank/cage alongside a snakes tank, I would at least cover the side of one of the tanks so that the snake would not accidently try to strike at it's neighbor therefore possibly injuring itself.

While I never kept my breeder mice within close proximity of my snakes, I did feel that when I brought mice in to feed to the snakes, the snakes could smell the mice as they would be become highly excitable anticipating their meal. Of course they also sometimes exhibit this behavior when they are just downright hungry too. I know if they are excited when there's no mice scent around, my chances of getting accidently struck are pretty close to nil. But every time I've been hit, it's because they were too excitable when I had mice within their smell range although they usually could not see them.

I would imagine that if they lived with the smell of rodents nearby all the time, their behavior would modify and calm down as this would be more of a common occurrence not necessarily equating itself to having a food source nearby. But I would still block their view of the rodents for safety :)
