Took Matrix outdoors for the first time today. Very mellow animal and it has the coolest colors on it. Shines with rainbows in the sun! I want to probe it to find out what sex it is, but I may just wait until the next shed to see if there are sperm plugs.

I prefer to think of it as "she" if you don't mind. I've got too many boys already! This one's spurs aren't too pronounced either, but that's not always a good indicator. As for the look of pure evil....there's not a drop in the beauty! It's a sweety!

Sorry. "She" is gorgeous. She actually doesn't look THAT evil-- she doesn't have pronounced, evil "eyebrows" like some ATBs. Still, if there was a Garden of Eden, then I picture the snake looking much like that! ;)

That ATB is one of the most wicked snakes Ive ever seen! That last picture is absolutely insane! How much do these ATBs usualy go forÉ Are they expensive to care for? And how hard are they to care for?

Are you talking about the one I bought the first year I got into amazons? Katari? He's a male and 2 years old now. If you're talking about the litter I had late last year into this year, I haven't sexed any of those.
As far as cost Paul, I'm not sure what they run up in Canada. The imorts here range from $80-$175 depending upon whether or not they have color. Captive born and bred cost more, but they are in general more healthy and usually have better temperaments. Surprisingly though, all my wild caughts are pretty docile. All the cbb stuff are. Caging is more expensive as they need one that is resistant to moisture and will hold heat more readily. They are a good starter snake as far as arboreals go though, being relatively hardy, especially compared to green tree pythons which have a much higher mortality rate. If you do your homework, they are not hard to care for at all.

Meg, the amazing thing is that I had never seen an ATB for sale till today! This new pet store opened and its pretty big and I must say it has some pretty nice herps in it today, It had very decent sized Leos, APTOR, and even RAPTOR, I even came home with a new addition (which I ought to be posting pics of in general chitchat soon :p), they even had nice sized pastel Ball pythons and Opal Corns, Snow corns (they were actually a special type of snow corns but i cant remember right now) etc, and they did have one ATB on sale. I tell you since this store opened I have not seen this variety in morphs or let alone these herps ANYWHERE in Quebec. The ATB was 175 canadian but Looked to be a hatchling and was very brown, not much pattern at all on it, they also had an ETB at 1000$ but most of those are WC in Quebec, maybe the ATB was WC but maybe CB seeings as it was so young.
 
The garden phase amazons are usually the cheapest and yes, most likely they were imports. Emeralds are much more expensive and I'd stay away from imports in that species-same as green tree pythons. They tend to have a high mortality rate. I think there is a breeder somewhere up there of those. They just don't do anything for me as there's not much variation in them. The ones that are very different (the melanistic for instance) are incredibly expensive. If you have a reptile show near you it might be a good place to look, or go online and see if you can find a breeder for amazons. I'll ask around on my boa forum.
 
I have 2.3 adults (1.2 red with pattern, and 1.1 yellow and red/orange "chain pattern" types). Only the red male is c.b. - the others are all w.c. I picked them from a huge import shipment a few years ago. The c.b. is reasonably handleable, although he will bite if you are not careful and slow in handling. The other adults are fairly vicious. However, they strike slowly and are kind of clumsy and half hearted in their strikes - you can usually avoid them if you pay attention. But not conducive to handling for fun!!

The 3 babies I am keeping back are 1.1 from the first litter (bright yellow female and yellow and orange male that I have posted photos of, and 1 red female from second litter) are all getting pretty used to handling. I have never tried before to raise a "tame" ATB. But now I think it is important to do so, so that I can take some to the shows as adults to help dispel their reputation as vicious (although not "carry around your neck pets"), and to help promote them as great vivarium pets.
 
I would put Ember in the "carry around your neck" category believe it or not. Tempest my green tree python is also in that category...no matter who holds her. Neither were bothered a bit by the vet holding them. They merely curled up around his arm and hung out there. He loved them. He's taken pictures of all of the ones I bring in to show him. I'm required to write the animal's name, common species name and the latin one too! Nothing like trying to remember how to spell pantherophis guttat, morelia viridis or corallus hortulanus on short notice!
Kathy: Can you post a few pictures...especially of your reds?
