YouTube clip featuring cruelty to reptiles

Thats unbelieveable.....

There is hope though, if you take a look at the comments, there is common sense and even some knowledge in some people.

Isn't it amazing the lengths that wimpy little boys will go to to make people think their "family jewels" are more impressive than they actually are??

Sad, truly sad. :angry01: :puke02:

If I knew that kid, I'd make him go through what that anole did. What a jerk. :angry01:

Man thats awful. There are a lot of sad things on youtube or anywhere. I saw a video on there and these people had a huge python and put it in a little place with some sort of big animal. Yeah and it wasn't pretty.

Its all sick and sad.

I don't want to watch it- but isn't there a way to report offensive videos, and then they take it off??

Nanci

Some one in the comments said they were going to report it, but it appears nothing was done about it if they did, since the video is still there.

Not to completely sanction what he did, but how is the tease feeding of a live anole to an iguana any different from our tease feeding a live pinky or anole to a cornsnake?

I didn't watch it- so I didn't know what the content was.

Yup, everyone has a line. I can feed live pinks- no problem. (But don't.) I get sqeamish with live frogs/anoles, but would do it if that was the last option. I can't feed live toads.

My understanding is that feeding the anole to the Iggy was detrimental to the iguana's health, as they are vegetarians and do not do well with too much protein.

Iguanas, adult igs in particular, are vegetarians. I hate to think how starved that iguana had to be to accept an anole as good food.

Here is a quote from the Green Iguana Society regarding feeding animal protein to igs.
Why the concern about animal protein in iguana diets? There are a couple of reasons why including animal products as a staple part of your iguana’s diet is a bad idea. For one thing, animal products often contain large amounts of fats and cholesterol, which are no better for your iguana than they are for you. Secondly, iguanas’ bodies are designed for maximum utilization of plant foods. They aren’t able to adequately process the high concentrations of proteins found in animal products. Their bodies tend to convert the products of excess protein breakdown to substances such as uric acid, which can be deposited in the tissues in crystallized form, leading to gout (for more information on gout, visit our Other Diseases page). Their kidneys have to work harder to remove the waste products of protein breakdown from the blood, which leads to kidney damage and eventual kidney failure in the long run. Given the fact that most captive iguanas are at least mildly dehydrated much of the time, too much protein in the diet just puts further pressure on already taxed kidneys.

So it's not necessarily the feeding of a live animal, but the feeding of a totally inappropriate food source. It would be the same kind of outrage as when people post here about feeding crickets or guppies to their corns.

I have fed my snake(s) live pinky's, when necessary. I would do it again, in order to preserve their lives. But that doesn't mean I enjoy it or relish watching a life be extinguished. I think that people who would post such a spectacle online are sick, disturbed people who have bigger issues than feeding their pet an innappropriate diet.

Those guys pretty much looked like drunk/stoned college students with nothing else better to do. Jerks.

I should have just watched the video before blabbing my mouth off.

I had an adult free-ranging iguana some years ago. He had his own area, with a heating pad, branches, all that, that he slept in every night. He was fed the recommended iguana diet. I had him several years. We thought it was cute that he would go downstairs, find the cats' bowl of dried food, and eat it. Then he died. I didn't know. One day he appeared fine, the next he was yellowish, we rushed him to the vet- he died in herp intensive care. You can imagine how much like cr*p I felt about that.

Is the reason why everyone is upset is because Iguanas dont eat animals like that and the kid sort of forced fed the animal to the iguana? I mean, I totally agree with everyone here, Im just trying to figure out why everyone is upset.

I feed my snake live pinkies and I get the same reaction from Non-snake owners.

Maybe someone could explain to me why the uproar?
