Zilla Escape!?

So our little Okeetee girl is in a ten gallon Zilla tank.
She's a late August hatching, and she's grown quite a bit... She's been in this tank since September 19th no problems.

We go to change the water and check on her when we realize, she is gone.
We went through all the aspen, hides, ridge or the zilla... Nothing, she's gone.

Wellllll.... We tear the whole room apart and we couldn't find her.
I've already cried and she's not even mine (my amel is also in a 10 gal zilla tank, no problems with him either).

So I set up a trap so to speak.
Got a extra heat pad, set it close to her tank on the floor with a couple hides all around and a mouse.

I hadn't even set it all up when my boyfriend says "THERE YOU ARE!" -dives into my bookcase- he catches her.

So she has an indent on her head as well, not sure what it is from but from what I have learned on here is that it SHOULD go away with each shed. If not, it adds some character (she's ALWAYS been the naughty one)

But my question is...
A zilla? I thought they were the tanks to get because they were so safe? How could this have happened, I checked the tank all over and I have no idea how it could have gotten out.

What should I do? we have a book on top now, but I'm so confused.
Help please?

It's the kind with the sliding locking lid? Was the lid latched? She isn't so small that she could get through the holes for the wires, is she?

I don't even know what to tell you, i've never had a problem with zilla... The only way i could see a snake getting out is either user error or a broken cage (like the screen has a hole or something)

It is a sliding locking lid, and no holes in the screen but I will go double check.

and it was slid shut when I opened it, thus how I'm so confused.
I swear someone is messing with me or something.

LOL.

So I just double checked, nothing wrong with the screen.
and there is no way she could fit through the screen holes, ever.
Smaller then her eye. >.<

What The...?! Well that's freaky! I'm glad your guy found your snake. But really...an escape from a locking lid Zilla cage blows my mind!

Yeah the lid was still locked and slid over, It blows my mind too.
I was like "I have to post this in cornsnakes, there has to be an explanation!"

I swear I was being haunted last night, I blame the ghost or something. >.> half kidding.
I can't think of how this snake could have possibly got out.

+ Hurt herself, I'm still not sure how she got injured.

I just don't want it happening again, the boyfriend was sad about losing his snake. ):

Think this was a one time fluke?

Has to be a fluke, if it happens again, i'd get a new zilla cause there is no way that snakes can open, get out, and close a zilla. Maybe your screen is disconnected from the plastic rim somewhere? If it is unattached just a little, it could squeeze through it..

hmm...

I'm going to double double check the screen, because I really can't think of any other explanation.

I'll be going to an expo this weekend, I was planning on upgrading their tanks anyways, so I guess if she stays in there until Sunday we should be good, but it seriously rattles my brain how this is possible if the screen is good. I know she likes to hang out in the rim some time, so if there is a slight hole... She def could do it.

The screen is PERFECT.

I checked everything, nothing is wrong with it.
I even checked if I could have possibly turned the screen the wrong way - no way.

I have no idea.

What should I do in the mean time till Sunday? Keep a book over top?
Anything? I'm worried it will happen again.

Also I don't think she snuck out on a hide or anything when I was looking for her, unless she's 007 and was like clinging to the bottom of the water bowl or something (I'm kidding, I'm sure this isn't possible either)

I'd see her on the hides, since one is a bamboo thing (kinda like a toilet paper roll) and the other is a homemade little cave that she's going to grow out of soon...

I'm so confused. >.>

I wish i could help, i'd just keep going as if it never happened. If the zilla is in perfect condition then i would just leave it be. How many people have zillas and had a snake escape? what are the odds it'll happen again before Sunday if the cage is in great condition? I doubt it'll get out again before then and if it does, then there has to be something wrong with the zilla cause there is no way even a baby corn can get out of a 10 gal, the holes for the cords are no where near big enough unless the lid isn't closed all the way
