I purchased some Sunkisseds from Rich right out of the egg and have a nice 2.3 group that show a variety of color types. I'm looking forward to discovering what possible hets these might have!

To round out the group, I added this Sunkissed het lavender female from Rich while I was at Daytona.

That is one beautiful group! I love #4's head pattern the most but I love #5's color the most. They are all going to be goregous adults.
 
Love the crazy sunkissed head pattern...some of mine have it while others don't. Very nice sk Susan...tahnks for sharing!
 
BTW: #2 is MY pick for favorite. Look at the pattern/coloration...I bet those blotches are gonna lighten more than the background giving that really cool sunkissed look. You have a great group...it'll be like christams waiting to see what hatches from the eggs.

We know Rich had the following Sunkissed morphs at Daytona... so we know that they may be het for any of teh following

Sunkissed Lavenders
Sunkissed Hypo Lavenders
Sunkissed Ultras
Sunkissed Hypos
Sunkissed Silverqueen Ghosts

I say try crossing BOTH males the first year to a GHOST...that way you might hit with Hypo or Anery (or both)...the next year go for Lavender (if they didn't prove out for ghost) and then work from there.

Fun project.
 
Well, I will say this about possible genes. I don't think I bred ANY Sunkissed to Sunkissed this past year. Heck for that matter, I'm not even sure I had any *just* Sunkissed adults this past year. Anything Sunkissed was at least possible het for something else.

I'm not to concerned about that. I have known stargazer-free Sunkissed lines and if any of these new Sunkisseds prove to carry it, I'll deal with it at that time. But I refuse to purposefully buy and then breed a known stargazer to test out my snakes. Known stargazers should be euthanized instead of reproduced at the rate they currently are.

Forgive me for the dumb noobie question. How does one find out if one's Sunkissed carries stargazer except by doing a test breeding? If I understand correctly this is a recessive, so carriers act OK. I agree with you that propagating known carriers or homozygotes with the neurological issue is not a good idea, but I dunno how else one proves one's line is clean other than 1 round of test breeding (followed sadly by 1 round of feeding the king snake, I think).

You don't know until it pops up. It's the same with any other hidden genetic condition. Some are good, some are not so good. Have you ever had hatchlings die in egg or were grossly deformed or died for some unknown reason a month or a year after hatching? How do you know those weren't caused by a simple genetic condition that you will now have to test those parents for and then every other snake related to them, or your entire collection? I'm not going to take the several years worth of breeding trials it will take to absolutely guarantee any of my snakes does or does not carry it, as well as having to kill each and every one of the resulting hatchlings in the process. If I get stargazing hatchlings in a clutch, I'll deal with the problem then.
 
I would pick #5 for sheer brightness, but #2 is my fav! There's just something about that little one I really like....
