The poll, conducted Feb. 1-3, showed just 44% of registered voters approving of Obama's job as president. 47% disapprove. But among independent voters, Obama's approval rating sits at a terrible 29%, while his disapproval rating is at 57%.
Obama's 44% job approval rating is the lowest he has scored in any non-internet poll since moving into the WH, according to a review of data compiled by Pollster.com.

I heard Sara Palin is available.

My hope for change is inversely proportional to Obama's approval rating. The lower it sinks, the more hope I have for change. :D

I find this terribly sad. So many people bought in to the "change." I didn't vote for him, but the last thing I want is to see him fail. I was cautiously optimistic. I hate the way my country has "changed" since his election.

It's interesting. In Canada the Liberal party held office for a long time. Chretien was Prime Minister for, I think, twelve years. After a bunch of scandals hit news revealing that the Liberals were funneling money to private corporations, and then back into their own pockets, approval for the self-styled 'Canada's natural governing party' fell like a stone. As a long time Conservative, I was pretty happy when Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada were elected to office.

And now I've completely turned around and wish we could go back to the thieves that were in office before. Harper is the worst thing to happen to Canada in a long time, a real threat to our parliamentary democracy. It's tough living in Alberta and having to rail against the Conservatives because even though they've ducked non-confidence motions and shut down the government to avoid an inquiry into torture allegations in Afghanistan, people around here are still vehement supporters simply because of "NEP!" (NEP was a disastrous energy policy enacted 20 years ago by a Liberal government that arguably contributed to how hard Alberta crashed during the oil bust in the 80s).

Politics never works out the way you want and it seems sometimes that the harder you try, the worse things get. All I can hope for now is returning the the marginalization of the west simply because of Albertans' refusal to think for 2 seconds about what the Conservatives have done to my beloved country.

I hope the same thing doesn't happen in the US as Obama's term continues.

I think all politicians are fools, that's what I think.

It's a sad state of affairs when the best that a person can hope for is that the smallest pile of crap becomes the boss...

Disappointing, disheartening, disenchanting...yes, all of the above. But what's the alternative?

You vote hope for a better tomorrow and get kicked in the teeth. You vote for a return to the status quo and watch your civil liberties slowly get stripped by a government intent on "protecting" us. There just doesn't seem to be any winning anymore... How can anyone be the right choice when everyone is so obviously the WRONG choice?

:shrugs:

EXACTLY my feelings!

Y'all summed it up pretty well! I just hope the next "Republicrat" choice isn't between Obama and Palin - what a choice!

I know a lot of really intelligent honest people. Why can’t we find one to president. The Palin comment was a joke, I sincerely hope we can find a worth while candidate between now and 2012.

I think that question has been asked for years...at least as long as I've been of voting age. I think that "intelligent and honest" people and "president" might be an oxymoron. (sorry if I offended anyone by the use of the word "moron."

I think it is one of those questions that the answer is: anyone who would be willing to take on the responsibilities, scrutiny, and general difficulties for a job that pays less than it costs to win the job, is somebody who is going to have to possess an enormous ego, and will have to be not only experienced in politics, but good at the "dirty" side of politics in order to broker all necessary back room deals. In other words, somebody who could win, and do, this job, is not necessarily the person we WANT for the job.

But where does the solution lie? I don't know if there IS a solution. As long as the country, and Federal government, is so HUGE, it will probably require all of those back room deals. Making it smaller is pretty near impossible, but the only thing that will help.

I’d like to see someone who has actually had a job. Somebody with some business experience that knows what it means to get the job done with the money you have in the bank. Someone who will put the good of the nation first and personal gain in the closet.

If Joe the Plumber ran, I’d vote for him.

I've never liked the whole process of campaigning and "Running for President". Seems to me that anyone that wants the job that badly should be automatically disqualified.

I mean...it carries the heaviest load of responsibility of any job in the free world, doesn't pay a whole lot(comparatively speaking), and the benefits..well...alright there are some good benefits. I'll let you decide what sort of benefits there are. I'm sure we can all think of a couple we wouldn't mind experiencing for a cuople days, at least...

But ultimately, this has got to be the worst job in the world, if you do it right. Anyone that is truly qualified for the job...wouldn't want it, as they would not feel qualified to undertake it.

So we get stuck with a bunch of egomaniacal, sociopathic liars and cheats. Choose which one you dislike the least, and try to enjoy your life...:toiletgra

Obama has disappointed me in some respects (although I do bear in mind that people gave the man barely a year to pull the country out of a massive tailspin before ripping him to shreds). Still, I'd a million times rather have him than his predecessor.

That is exactly why I voted for Ross Perot...

the FIRST time he ran. I thought his business experience would be a nice change from politicians. Unfortunately, by the next time around, he seemed a little too crazy, so I didn't vote for him again.

But I would tend to vote for some businessman who was really successful - maybe a Bill Gates type, or somebody who turned around an ailing corporation -Lee Iaccoca type, maybe?

To be fair to the people...if a president is going to campaign promising everything under the sun, people are going to expect it. He did everything except stand up and declare "I'm Batman."
