OK, fair enough. I think we may be talking past each other a lot, or we may define faith & belief a little differently. I sort of have to take astrophysics on faith, I can't understand the calculations or the measurements. I know the scientific method works, that's not a faith issue, because there are areas of science I understand well enough to see the evidence.

Either way, that's OK, I think. I am content to believe without evidence of the sort you mention. I am also content to let those who don't believe be who they are. I am so NOT a recruiter for religious faith!

I was afraid to click on this thread, but I can say I'm not regretting that I did.

We laughed, we cried, and we laughed some more. And then I dressed up my snakes in little sweaters and we had a jolly time until the sun came up.
 
Interesting thread...Looks like I'm a little late, but I've caught up on most of it. First of all; god being proven by a mathematic equation makes no sense. Just replace God with any other word, basically, and you get the same answer. Not to mention, it seems like a very atheist approach to proving God exists...Either you believe or you don't, but if someone is going to claim proof I want to see it in person. Otherwise I only accept the belief part.

Secondly; I'm completely with Diamondil on evolution...Maybe God created the first processes of evolution to fill his/her desires for an extraordinary existence, but denying that creatures don't evolve because God creates them "as is" is just silly. Evolution is proven and critical in the stabilization of any planet. It's like how people can't catch the same cold twice, because our bodies are able to adapt as needed. Overtime the urge to adapt forces creatures to change and evolve into more practical beings; human beings are no exception. Still possible evolution was designed by god in such a way that we were never meant to see the end of our own changing, but sure enough if this world were to hold for another million years we would no longer be humans (or at least what we know now to be human).

Great discussion anyway, but as it stands I'm sticking with "the theory of God has not yet been proven". Though deep down I believe, it means nothing for someone who doesn't or who needs more evidence. The fact is that there is no proof of God beyond what we believe in, or what some people claim is God as a basis for all things we cannot explain...I'm fine with all that, but proof is still something we do not have despite the many testaments we can produce.
 
All I have to say on the matter is, there was multiple times in the bible where God himself is asked to prove himself, and he doesn't do anything to prove himself, because he doesn't need too. The most famous would be when he's being crucified and the man being crucified asks him, "If you're God then, why don't you save yourself?". :)

Well then there are those who believe the Jesus Christ and God are two different people. I do not believe the thief next to Christ used the word God. At least not in the KJV.
 
maybe i quoted it wrong, and I apologize for not thinking about that first. I've grown up in the belief that God is the same as Jesus, that the god head doesn't exist. it was insensitive of me to not think before my post. my apologies.
 
I'm just going to pop in and say that on any board, whenever someone tries to talk about religion, it gets racist/prejudice and turns into a flame war. D:
