Calls to boycott Arizona are spreading like a virus

I just talked to my brother in Mesa last night...

he has lived there for many years, so of course follows this much more closely than I do.

He said the "suspicious stop" is definitely a secondary thing - they have to stop you for something else, first - broken taillight, speeding, etc. They can't question you if you are innocently walking down the street just because they don't like your looks. Of course, there may be abuse, but probably no more so than for any other law.

He also said that they were careful to write it to mirror the Federal law. He said that in effect, it just says that the Federal immigration law is now also Az law. That is why they think it will stand a challenge. He says it isn't any tougher or looser than the Federal law - it is just that Az plans to enforce it, unlike the Feds. (DISCLAIMER - neither of us are attorneys, and neither of us read the law itself - his info is based on his accumulation of info garnered from news reports. Of course, we KNOW that they are always factual and unbiased, lol!).

IF it is true that it is just a state adopting the same regs as the Feds, then I don't see why people would complain. But unless Florida proposes to do the same, I doubt that I will actually read the law since it is in another state and I can't do anything about it, anyway. I will take a wait and see approach. Maybe it will turn out to be a good thing - I don't know yet.

Maybe this will move the Feds to finally decide to stop butting into state issues so much (like anti pet laws, medical marijuana issues, marriage laws, etc), and spend our money and their time actually doing the job the Constitution demands them to do at the border. Stranger things have happened...or not...

Thanks for the offer Tsst, but I guess if it was not important then it is much less important now that the horse has been declared dead. :)

Like Outcast said, we can agree to disagree. I will be proudly living next door to Los Angeles, where more than 100,000 people are expected to march tomorrow, and you guys keep proudly living wherever you live. That is the reason why we have blue and red states.

And like I said, ignorance is bliss, but in case someone dare to know, some good and concise information about immigration can be found here and here (2 parts article). :flames:
Too bad the Cali folks didn't take things in their own state as serious as they are AZ business. *cough* state bankruptcy. *cough* ;););)

That is really interesting Kathy. I looked up the law and tried really hard to read it. It was so much Legaleeze I couldn't did through it. I read the first 4 or 5 pages and realized I had comprehended nothing and gave up.

You're exactly right, Kathy... they PURPOSEFULLY mirrored Federal law. That's why I think this is so MUCH ado about nothing... IF they consider this law unconstitutional, then they'll have to consider the Federal law unconsititutional as well... which will lead to bigger things.

As for California invading Texas... Even though I know it was said in jest... THAT is part of the problem... many people who vote "blue" in Blue states are LEAVING those Blue states BECAUSE that which they voted for has gone awry and are starting to "infect" the population centers in Red states... I find this to be a BIG problem. I think they should stay right where they are and suffer the consequences for their voting records.

On a lighter note... OMG... Shakira is here voicing her opposition to LAW 1070... Like the blather coming out of her mouth was WRITTEN by her... Who believes THAT??? LOL. :poke:

Yup - sounds like it mirrors a Federal law, then, lol! Most politicians are lawyers. Maybe we should start requiring politicians to spend a few years at a REAL job before they are allowed to run for office!

I saw that on the news last night, Fred. Along with Jon Secada, Rosie Perez, and others.
But is Shakira DANCING...??? That is the force to be reckoned with. LOL.

Our local political radio station here called KFI on AM 640 is starting to band together to plan a counter strike to counter all the striking fools in LA haha!!

There are some wonderful people in Hollywood. Singers and Dancers, very talented people. I wonder what ever gave them the idea they were experts on everything else in the world?

Because their ego's are just as bad as politicians.

:roflmao:
Wade, that reminds me all the way back to Jane Fonda's and Vanessa Redgrave's near brushes with career death, when they attempted to step into world politics on Viet Nam/Cambodia, and Palestine/Israel respectively.

You mean like, Janine Garafalo... Susan Sarandon and her horrible actor hubby (I forget his name, but can picture his face)... BS (ALSO stands for Barbara Streisand), Celine Dion ("OMG, LET them steal the TV's!")... They're entitled to their opinions... but their opinions shouldn't have any more "weight" than anyone else's.
