Rosie is growing!

Since I have had to take it easy all week while my ankle heals, the boys have been taking Rosie out for lead walks 2 or 3 times a day. I have missed taking her out for runs and today I couldn't bear the cabin fever any longer and managed to get my padded yard boots on, so off we went.
The timing couldn't have been better, Rosie's crowd of canine friends were all out, so she really got to let off steam and enjoy the freedom of running around like a looney!

I didn't realize you hurt your ankle. I hope it feels better.
It looks like a run was just what Rosie needed!
It's much better already, only twice the size it should be! (I got thrown off Cathy's cob Joey last Monday)
I've got a dog show to take Rosie to tomorrow so I thought I'd best let her have some off-lead time today.

I absolutely love Rosie's zoom-dog pics.
She loves to run.
Thanks Alan! I do like to give her the chance to open up, but she's really well-behaved on the lead walks too, no pulling and waits at the kerbs for the 'ok' to cross. I'm not sure from the itinery for tomorrow's show if she'll be entered in a race or not, but there's huge open areas outside where the show will be so I'll be able to let her off-lead at some point.

I took Rosie out for an adventure today, her first train rides. We were supposed to go to one or both of 2 country shows this holiday weekend, but my sister pulled out of going so I had to choose the one I could get to easiest without a car. Rosie was very well behaved and took everything calmly in her stride. The stairs at the stations were quite steep but she listened when I told her 'steady now' so I didn't get pulled, and twist my cankle. I made sure she knew what a good girl she was!

When we got to the fair I was disapppointed to find the dog show was for pedigree types only, with no terrier/lurcher racing, so instead we enjoyed the displays. I'd just missed the Suffolk Punch display team. Rosie's met horses a few times now, she thinks what comes out of them is wonderful stuff, and enjoyed a horse-poop snackette!

I loved the falconry display, especially the Harris hawks

There were lots of different breeds of poultry on display, giving a good chance to introduce Rosie to them safely. I don't think I'd call her stock-broken yet, she wanted to eat the ducks!

Next we enjoyed watching the Newfoundland's in action pulling little carts around. I told Rosie that was how some dogs had to actually earn a living but I don't think she believed me!

Then we had a look around the stalls before sharing a burger. There was some sort of Civil war reenactment camp there

And then my absolute favourite thing, a lovely Kiwi with his troupe of rare breed sheep. He had them trained to do little tricks, but apart from finding him quite easy on the eye I also did enjoy the info about the various breeds on display.
After a couple more turns around the fair, with Rosie meeting a lot of new people and their dogs, my cankle was really playing up so we headed for the station and came home.

It was supposed to be bright and hot today, instead there was a chilly wind with rain threatening! (But much better for Rosie that way, I'd packed extra water for her in case the forecast was right) Now I know she travels well on trains, I can take her out to more places without relying on friends with cars.

Here's my happy girlie zooming through the long grass! She was 'helping' me watch skylarks and a kestrel

What a great place for a dog to play J9, I bet she loves it.
It's been one of my favourite places as long as I can remember, Wade. As a child I learnt to ride on the mad little ponies that grazed there, caught common lizards and slow worms and loved watching the larks and kestrels. We used to sled down the hills on flattened giant cardboard boxes in summer and on home-made sledges in winter. By the time my boys came along the ponies were banned, but the area is safe from development in perpetuity, so more generations can enjoy having open downland right in the middle of town.
