A New Friend

I was hoping that tomorrow morning I would be introducing you to my new Brazilian Rainbow Boa, but the guy won't be shipping him quite yet as originally planned. Apparently they're going to have 90+ temps for the next 6 days where he lives. Bummer for me, but I certainly understand and support the reason for not shipping him/her, yet!

So, for now, I'll have to content myself with introducing you to my new friend who came to live with us just about 30 minutes ago. He's "just" a normal ball python, but I fell in love with him the moment I met him. It's like snuggling a sleeping cat--comfortable, in other words :). Got him off CL this morning for $30, which included his 20L tank and screen, the UTH, 2 nice hides, a big water bowl, a feeding tub, and a UV bulb and fixture (which I won't be using). Not bad! AND the snake is nice! He's "Probably" a male, as his sibling is a foot longer than he is, and they're the same age (4 years). He's 3.5 feet, and the other is 4.5 feet.

The guy who owned them put them up for adoption on CL (he and his family are moving to KY in 2 weeks), along with an amel cornsnake. I took the supposed male bp, some other people took the other 2 snakes. After grilling the guy about its feeding habits (f/t! YAY! otherwise I wouldn't have got him) and seeing for ourselves what a mellow snake he is, I couldn't resist. Even Z seems to like him, which is good, 'cause I thought a nice, mellow bp might be just the thing to help him get comfy with my snakes :).

Anyway, here's the snake. No name, yet. I didn't find out from the guy what he called him, and his kiddos didn't know, so I'll just find one I like and we'll go with that. He's fresh shed, and feeding will be in 2 days, so now seemed as good a time as any to introduce him:

So, whatcha think? He's not a fancy morph or an impressive species (as pythons go), but I really, REALLY like him :).

Kitty??

He looks like a good snake! I enjoyed holding the tiny one I had visiting for a week!

Oh, I forgot to add that the guy we got him from had all 3 snakes vet-checked last week, before he put them up for adoption. All healthy--good weight, no mites, no shed issues, scale issues, breathing problems, kinks, injuries, deformities, etc.

Not a bad deal for $30, eh?

Wow, that is a great deal- and he is gorgeous Mrs. Z!!! It sounds like all that Mr. Z needs is a nice calm, easy going and 'not gonna jump out of your grasp' type of snake! Then he will be part of the addiction right along side the rest of us. ;)

Awwwww, he looks great!! So healthy and bright!

I've had the BP itch lately! It's one of those "hopefully someday sooner rather than later" things for me right now, but still is somewhat on the back burner to the rest of my life. Good luck with this new guy! I know that the moment I got hooked / set on having a BP eventually was when I got to hold one and have him chill around my neck at a party I was at years ago. I love the way they just chill with ya!

Congratulations!

I hear ya! He rode home curled up on my chest, just under my chin, as calm as could be. I think there is something to be said for a snake you can just "hang out" with :).

Welcome to the wonderful world of BP ownership! One will probably not be enough for ya especially since they come in so many interesting colors and patterns! I started out with "just one" and now have 5 and one more on the way!

I like your new friend! To be honest, I've always thought BP's were boring and their morphs were too expensive, and didn't see what the big deal was. But now I keep hearing about their sweet, cuddly dispositions and seeing their cute little puppy-dog faces...their pretty golden colours...I think I am starting to understand. I'd better avoid looking at them when I go to the CRBE or I might be coming home with two snakes instead of one!

I absolutely LOVE Balls (that kinda sounds dirty doesn't it?? ahahahaha)

It was a HUGE toss up between a ball and a corn and I decided a corn was the best way to go for me at this time but I do plan on adding a ball next year.

Your boy is absolutely gorgeous and what a steal....sounds like he came from a great home.

*sigh, I actaully saw a realllly awesome looking almost Mature male Spider for $80 at a local reptile shop, but I'm not quite comfortable enough with the over all husbandry at the shop to trust that the snake would be healthy and not a threat to the rest of my collection (even with quarantine I worry about things traveling on my clothing).

Guess I'll keep an eye on Craigs list or wait for the next expo! :dancer:

An $80 Spider ball, full grown? Yeah, I'd be worried there was a good reason for a retail establishment to charge that price for a full grown snake, and I'd want to find out what it is!

My husband loves this guy. I had to finally tell him to give the poor guy a break and let him get used to us for a few days, lest he get stressed and not eat. Now I'm afraid Z will get stressed and not eat! LOL! He loves the little guy's laid-back 'tude :).

I think their puppy dog faces are adorable. I might have to name him Lassie or Benji or somesuch, eh? *grins*

Well, "Benji" is out. Turns out my little "Puppy" is a "Puppette"!

And so that's what I'll call her, with her big puppy-dog eyes and her sweet personality. She's 3 1/2' long, so I assume that, like it or not, I should prepare for her to grow some more. Ah, well. No biggie, cause I LOVE this snake!!!

I love when they turn out to be girls, who needs males lol we are definitely a girly household here hehehe
