desirable butter look like?? what i mean is...a top quality butter should have what characterisics?? Dark saddles against a cream background? or Light colored saddles on a cream yellow background? any thoughts?

To be honest, I think it's one of those things that's in the eye of the beholder. I personally love the vibrant light bright yellows and creams that you get with the Motley and Stripe variations. Other people might have different preferences for the mellow pale caramels and deep yellow backgrounds. It's like asking what sort of dog people prefer - kind of a personal thing. Like Amels, there's so much variation within the morph.

As mentioned, it's a personal preference. I think my butter is perfect, but that's my personal opinion.

I love Josh's in the way that the color is pretty consistant all the way down the snake but I have to vote Susan's personally just because I love the bright yellow snakes. BTW Yellow snakes are my favorite.

ewww ahhh I would have to agree very perfect. I guess it is becoming very obvious which ones are my favorite. :) I can't wait till mines yellow comes in nicely but it is amazing how much they change with each shed.

My butter, Petrie, gets brighter with each shed. He's so bright yellow now, I cannot wait to see how he looks when he's an adult.

yeah i like the butters as well.....very pretty indeed. one day i hope to have butter stripes....now that is a drop dead gorgous yellow snake! :)

I knew I wanted a butter corn but had to put my plans on hold while I went to Iraq so it took me about 2 years to get my corn but I got my butter and I will be adding a male butter stripe in January.

I would agree your butter is sweet! (Umm...ok...anyway). No really, i was just wondering, and like in another post..i've looked around and there is alot of variance from one butter to the next...some are almost white...and others have the dark dark saddles. would the saddle color play into making a butter stripe? meaning...if i had a butter with exceptionally dark saddles and bred it to an Amel stripe, i should get butter het stripe. in the 2nd gen. if i bred brother & sis together i have a 25% chance at a butter stripe. would the dark saddle color transfer to the stripe..staying a deep rich caramel stripe on a yellow bodied snake? sorry if it's confusing or just sounds stupid...it's 2:00am here in ohio! Again, you do have a Very nice butter.

Interesting project, and it could work if you chose not only a butter with a dark saddle color, but an amel stripe that had a dark full stripe. You would then select the amel offspring that showed the darkest saddle color and hope it continued to transfer to the butter stripes. But with any selectively bred look, at the beginning, you may only get a few with close to the desired look but you would need to further selectively breed to really narrow the final look down.

Personally, unless you have a great desire to wait several generations for your end product and get the satisfaction of having created it yourself, try looking for the end product now. Ask to see the parents as well as the individual hatchlings to find just the perfect one. I'm sure it's out there.

And just as an FYI, the dark caramel coloration of the saddles of your butter will get lighter and more yellow as she grows. Here is my butter at 8 months old.
