Ball Python troubles..

Forget what? The fact that sometimes owning a certain species means going outside your comfort zone? If you're going to own Ball Pythons somtimes live feeding is essential to the success of the animal.

I'm not advocating feeding live to everything. I'm advocating, when a Ball Python has a feeding issue feeding live may very well correct the problem.

I will feed him live if I have to. He is in a 41 quart tub that is enclosed on three sides (including both long sides). My main concerns are if I get him a small live rat (I'm thinking pups so I can leave him be with it without worry of him getting chewed up) if he does not eat it, how is the best way to euthanize it?

My boa would eat it, but I'd rather freeze it and try again the next week with the ball. If the ball doesn't eat it that time, then the boa could have it.

That works. Again I got our male pinstripe to eat a live pup and a prekilled rat, today. Same with our spotted python, live hopper and prekilled mouse. Both of these guys are problem eaters. In a few more feedings going to try just prekilled without the live and if that works then a couple more feedings try f/t.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Today I fed baby Ball pythons and some of them, established F/T feeders outright refused F/T, but sure did love live. That's the problem with Balls, it's like a switch goes off and all of a sudden F/T is out of the question!

Are you posting just to push my buttons? It sure seems that way to me. Again your post has nothing to do with what Ali was talking about.

Where do you work? So that I can tell my husband never to buy a ball python from them!

Lol I so hope that's not what happened xD
If I still lived in Northern Co it wouldn't be bad, since the guy I buy all my rodents from lives there.. but the only option I have here are some dirty pet stores :( I'll have to stalk Craigslist if he won't go back to f/t

No I'm not. I'm just relaying the frustration with Ball Pythons lol! They're quirky little buggers and are quite funny in their behaviors. Sometimes it's takes a lot of years to learn all the tricks Balls toss at you. It's a learning curve that's often tricky to figure out. If you would to PM you to discuss this further I'd be happy to, or you can give me a personal phone call! (703-789-7221).

Nah, I just want to know where you work so that my husband wont buy any bps from there is all I needed to know. You can PM the information if you would like!

Hmmmmm odd...why take it to PM's or phone calls??
This is a forum to discuss and maybe share ideas. (Even tho this is a corns snake site.)

On another note: Seems like I haven't found any new information from this discussion to change my mind about feeding live. From what I have read from other sources, balls are a PINA but if you work with them they (but maybe not all, like corn too) can be switch to f/t. Seems like it's the time that you but into working with them that help solve that.

Why take it to phone calls? Because I'm wasting an enormous amount of time debating this.

Ball Pythons, are notorious for going off feed and fasting for huge amounts of time. Again, I'm not advocating live feeding to things like Corns, but with Balls, there is a much higher tendency for them to go off feed completely, and refuse F/T. When you offer live they seem to have a much better feed response and they tend to simply do better. You can work with a Ball Python for years and it still won't take F/T. It's just something that they seem to do.

Ahhh you forgot PM's, type here type there, still same amout of time.

Well...this is a forum!!, which member ""gather"' too to debate. And you did reply to several times to debate...So if you your time is precious, why reply??

But to tell members to take it to PM's, well... that looks like something is going to get ""covered up""

Again...this is what a forum is about, disscusions, out in the open.

I'm sorry that some are not seeing your side but...that happens in life.

Dave, I don't know why you feel like you need to police me and it's actually quite comical to have a 50 some year old man try and police an 18 year old on the interwebz. I can ask someone to please PM or call me, because that way I can have a 1 on 1 discussion, without others interrupting. Yes, this is a forum and I can say whatever I want to say. I do enjoy a good debate, but when it get's like this and degenerates into "well I'll just block you!", it's a waste of time. I can tell you dislike me Dave, and it's very evident, so why don't you just completely avoid any threads I'm on?

So...looks like you don't have a good answer to my question.
Shame... I was being polite too. When the debate dosen't favor your opinon don't take it to heart.

Remember this is a corn snake site, I'm on alot of threads, if your there and not, it won't stop me.

There are a few other forums out there if this one bother you.

I'm not entirely sure how this thread turned into an argument. I could have asked this question on the BP forum, but every time I go there, I feel like someone is talking down to me, so I decided to ask here. I respect everyone's opinions, but since David works with ball pythons daily, I don't understand why everyone is fighting about the feeding live thing. Ball pythons do eat live a lot more consistently than not, I just wanted to know if the amount of time my ball has been off feed is normal, and if I should continue offering f/t, or try live to elicit a feeding response.

Dave, don't play innocent.

And Dave, why are you scolding me for asking for people to PM me, when not 5 minutes ago you were PM'ing AliCat? Just saying.....
