First Year Excitement

Two more wigglers out of their shells today, both pinknoses.

I think the second candycane here has my favorite head pattern of the bunch so far.

Two more pippies to leave the shell. One's another candycane. The last one is another Miami, I think, which would give us an even 4/4 split.

These are the last two out of their shells, and the last two for the clutch. Eight big, healthy-looking babies, 4 Miamis, 4 amel/candycanes.

Now to let them shed and hope they eat. :)

The first three hatched have shed. After watching one of them struggle to get a pinky down because it was a leetle too big, I need to go get some smaller pinks, but! He attacked that little mouse. Made me very happy!

It's been quiet over here for a while, hasn't it?

The first clutch have all eaten several times and are doing very well.

And! We came home from vacation to find the second clutch pipping! Seven noses out of 18 so far. One is already out, and looks to be a classic, but we'll see.

You should revel in and appreciate to the utmost your success in at least the first clutch all feeding. My first year went flawlessly, and then all heck broke loose in the following years! I'd have _died_ if I'd have non-feeders, much less hatchling deaths the first year. It's still very, very hard.

Oh believe me, I'm reveling and appreciating. I have read the Murphy's laws many, many times and have been bracing myself for the just-in-cases. I feel very lucky that he hasn't hit me yet, knock on wood.

And I was apparently wrong about the first one out. Clear belly means it's either diffused (which is very well could be by the head, though the color looks a little weird) or I got -very- lucky and got a plasma (my target for this clutch) as the first hatcher.

Pictures to come.

You should easily be able to tell the two apart. Plasma will be a light purplish color. Diffused will be anything from normal-ish minus the black borders, entirely or mostly, to reddish, with blurred sides or normal sides. BOTH should/may have clear see-through sections on their bellies, which will be easier to see after the first shed.

I'm thinking it's too dark to be a plasma, yes, so likely diffused. Ah, color variation. :) One of the reasons why I love my corns.

The first four of the second clutch:

They all have clear bellies, so 3 hypo diffused and a diffused, maybe. Maybe. First shed will help clear things up. :)

14 more eggs to go.

They all look like they have the masque gene, too.

As if the diffused/br gene didn't confuse me enough. XD

But these next four, despite having belly checks, have split belly checks, so you're probably right.

...and I just discovered that Salome, the dam of the second clutch, laid another little clutch of eggs today.

Madness. o.o

More babies.

They're just easier to get pictures of this way:

And then... a surprise baby.

I thought this one was a pewter, but it may be too light. Any ideas?

Well, to make up for my good luck with the first clutch, only one out of the first eight to shed from this clutch ate for me today. Boo.

Ah well. We'll see if they're more interested in a couple of days.
