My snake's not eating

I've been looking at other people's snakes, and Pinky is starting to look a little chunky to me.

Is Pinky overweight? I do not have a scale to weigh him.

Yes, he does look a bit on the chunky side. I sa that you feed him rats, and that someone suggested getting a scale.

I would switch him to adult mice, every 2-3 weeks, until he trims down.

Being overweight is just as bad for animals as it is for humans.
 
Yeah, he's looking a little on the chunky side. Rats are very fattening, and don't provide any more nutrients than an adult mouse. Definitely cut him back to large mice every 2-3 weeks, and sign him up for a gym membership.

Definitely get that scale, it will help you record his weight loss progress and once he has trimmed down you can adjust feedings as needed.
 
So my snake and I are both chunky. That's just depressing. Maybe should start yoga when I start yoga :)

What kind of scale? The type in a chemistry lab? How do I weigh something that won't stay still? Put him in a pillow case?

I use a digital food scale. I set a tub/container on the scale and use the tare function to zero the scale so when I put the snake it it will read out the snakes weight.

Scale I use, picked it up for $15 IIRC.

This is a good one, you can order them off of Amazon too. Just make sure it measures in grams, most snake info is done in grams.
 
new to this

Hey i'm new to this and have no idea how to post something so thought i would do it here as similar situation . I have a 2 year old corn who has not eating for 11 months now . i took him in to my local exotic pet shop , as they are experienced and i have always dealt with them and they know my snake . They kept telling me not to worry , but finally after 9 months they took him in to try and see if they could get him to feed . They tried different techniques , but none worked , so after a month and a half of them trying i brought him home , as they said he was still shedding and poohing . Had him home for 2 weeks now and noticed a big difference in his weight and he seems weak , he hasn't got a strong grip like he use to . I have tried lots of different things myself , even put him back in smaller viv as i thought the move into the bigger viv put him off . When i try feed him it's like he is scared of the mouse and tries to hide away . I don't know if they tried him with live prey and he's got a fright . I'm just really stuck on what to do , will he die ? will he eat ?
 
His outlook is not good. I'm surprised he's alive at all, after 11 months of not eating. You need to get him to a vet.

I totally agree, but I am confused. How can he be pooping if he hasn't eaten in 11 months? Is he alone in his viv or sharing it with another creature? What are the temps set at on the thermostat, and is the thermometer agreeing with the thermostat set temp?

Shedding and poohing does not necessarily indicate good health of a snake. Snakes will shed and defecate in good or poor health and will continue to do so through out their lives whether they are growing or not and eating or not.


Definitely get to a vet asap.
