Best brand of thermostat?

Hi! What brand of thermostat works best with the UTH? Did you find best deal in pet store or online? Thanks

Herpstat goes on sale for $10 off for the two "cheap" ones and $20 off for the two expensive ones November 21st for the Thanksgiving sale...

(Loves Herpstat)

Best low cost - ZooMed 500R $22 online $40 at pet store
Best mid range - Ranco $50-$80 online depending on if its wired or not
Best proportional - Herpstat line $105 and up online

It's definitely better to get a thermostat online, If you can even find one in a store, it will probably be the ZooMed for $40 and up.

For one snake I would personally go with a Ranco 111000 off Ebay for about $45-50 shipped and wire it myself.

I just ordered 2 Rancos and know people that swear by them, but for one UTH, I would not even bother with a thermostat. I did not even think about getting on until this year. Last year I produced about 250 babies, and this year I am looking at producing about 350, so I figured it was time.

If you are in the UK get a Habistat dimmer...... I have one running 3 tanks and it works perfect with no problems ever.

No kidding. Zee's new mat got to 119F with the thermostat ON a couple weeks ago (being dialed in).

Absolutley need to regulate any type of heating element. I think Helex makes the best thermostat. Best is a really big word. I saw people in this thread earler talking about $20 stats. Helex is around $200 for the starter set and goes up.

A proportional thermostat that will regulate the temp a little or a lot depending on what is needed is best. A regular thermostat is simple on or off. With this set up you are always warming up or cooling off, rarely just right. :flames::angry01:

ugh isn't that the worst?? with my old one i checked it and after being fine, it had suddenly climbed to 112F. it's quite an alarming feeling when you're expecting to see 83-88

I've had it with 500R. Just checked Choco/Inez's that's been running three weeks (on this particular set up of mats, placements, etc.) and it had a high of 99F! (and a low of 75.6) There's no way to know what's going on without a reliable max/min thermometer...

Meanwhile, in Zee's setup where I pulled the 500R and put in the Herpstat, it's varied from 80.1 to 82.2.

Maizey with the new Herpstat ND has ranged from 81.0 to 83.3.
