Pragmatic & Logical
About 2 weeks ago while feeding the adult corns, I came to the cage of one of my adult female blizzards, and she was not there! I pulled the box (Rubbermaid type rack system box) out - and there was a broken edge in the back, near the top. Looked like it was just brittle, and cracked to the point she could just leave. Darn! The snakes were just about to start breeding, and I only have 2 female blizzards!
I have occasionally had a small adult get out from a few of the cages that have more play (wriggle room!), although I try to make sure I put BIG adults in those - it has been a couple of years since losing an adult. I have usually found them in a week or so, wedged in behind another drawer, so I have been carefully looking. I just set her cage aside on a table, so I could just clean and use the same water bowl and label if I found her.
Last night Bill had a field hunter friend over for a hunt today. But when he took him outside late last night for a tour of the snake room, his eagle eyes saw something in that "empty" cage on the table. The blizzard had somehow found her way back, even though it was partially covered by other stuff, and in a different place! He said "Bill, I think that snake can get out of that cage - is it really supposed to be there?" She definitely WAS NOT there 2 weeks ago when I removed the cage! Guess she was hungry, and it smelled like home! Strange things happen sometimes...
