How do you all have self-restraint???

More snakes = more work, so I guess it's all up to your threshold of where it stops being fun and becomes a chore. The most I've ever had at one time was 33(?), and 20 is my threshold :*)

I still haven't been able to restrain myself, although I'll probably not get more cornsnakes. The arboreals are actually easier to manage than the corns. They take less time to clean, feed and generally do anything. I can feed the entire chondro collection and most of the amazons in the time it takes me to feed part of my cornsnakes

Good to know . . . . . . . I want a nice red ATB baaaaaaadly. :)

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, space isn't a real problem..If I put my mind to it I could probably fit in a considerable amount of snakes, but I'm not going to....LOL.
I just buy what appeals to me and I know I can look after, and would make a nice breeding project (I have a soft spot for Carpet pythons). I'd love another Anaconda, but they must rank as one of the hardest of all the snakes to keep. Not because they are large or nasty, it's the viv. Trying to keep a pond clean (they always dump in the water) is not the easiest of thing to do. So it'll be on the bottom of my list for ever....LOL
So my restraint is making sure that the snake fits in with my plans, or I can plan to fit in with the snake..(thats not restraint, is it? Do'h)

While space and time are not real issues for me, I think it's important to plan what you're getting - and why. I have snakes I've bought for breeding plans, and snakes I've bought purely as pets, but before any snake comes into my house I try to think about WHY I am buying an animal.

It really bugs me when people say "I have space for one more - what should I get". Surely if you've only got one more space, and you have no particular desire or need for a specific snake, you'd be better off getting nothing? Who knows, in two years time you might discover the *perfect* snake to fit in that one space ... it's not supposed to be a rush to fill your house up.

I don't see anything at all wrong with rehoming an animal that no longer fits breeding plans - that's just part of breeding and moving forward the generations (which is presumably what you want to continue improving the animals you produce). But in general, that should happen a few years after you buy the animal, not a few weeks after!

:dancer:This is put so well I thought it was worth reiterating the point:dancer:

My husband has given up.....he just rolls his eyes and asks where we're going to put them....it was his fault this happened anyway!

Off Topic

Well I've got a reddish/orange one available. Nothing solid red though....

Meg, which do you like better- the ATBs or the GTPs? I know you have a sweetheart GTP- but are any of your ATBs like that?

Self-restraint? What's that? Seriously though... I always take into consideration the requirements and time involved when getting new snakes. If I get something new I do plenty of research before hand. I think my limit will come when the upkeep gets to become a chore instead of being fun.

The saturation point is hard to achieve when you still get excited when you see the next one that floats your boat....LOL

My boat KEEPS getting floated....

Like I said before, this fall I am planning to get a pair of adult females and a pair of butter stripes. I don't really *need* the butter stripes til 2010, but it would be nice to get them early.

Well, last night I noticed that my possible bloodred stripe male is acting...well...he's off food and looking for some lovin! So, next week I am getting an adult bloodred for him. I plan to sell her after she lays her eggs either this season or next one though.

Lol I see that addiction is something everyone on this forum seems to suffer from. Well I borrowed my friend's stripe snow to cure the urge to purchase my favorites from online. I'm supposed to tame the little stripe snow "Bubblegum" so that'll give me some satisfaction for a while. =)

I have no restraint.... that's why I ended up with a pair of FL Kings (whiteside and a het) from the Tampa Expo.

I guess I need to stay away from the herp shows
