Problems with little Odin. [my min pin pup]
We now have him from thursday and he's kind of a problem-feeder.
Not very interested in his food, but this isn't good for a little pup.
We tried giving him lots of different food. (stuff that's good for him - no junk)
It works the first time, but then the second time we give it to him
he shows no interest in it.

Yesterday we called the vet, he gave us a special type of pup-food
It's said to be "extremely scrumptious" for the problem-feeders
Again, first time it was all good. He ate the food and he started jumping around and playing with the other dog.

This morning, Odin was very happy and jumpy/playful.
But as the morning passed, he didn't touch his food nor his water.
My GF called the vet, whilst I was at work, and little Odin's now on his way to the "Puppy.Intensive.Care"
They're gonna do some tests to see what exactly is wrong with him
and if necessary.. Intravenous therapy.

Tonight we're gonna know what's wrong with the little guy.
We can't visit him tonight, we must wait until tomorrow evening to pay him a visit.

So here I am at work, not able to stop thinking about our little boy.
I so hope he's gonna be okay.

I bet it's a case of buying a pup from a pet store that has weaned them far too young. I hope he picks up soon.

Me too..

I also wondered if maybe he left his mother too soon.
He's now 15 weeks. (born 23 november '07)

Apparently even breeders with a good name and business
can have this kind of unpleasant events.

Exactly as I mentioned in his introductory thread. Sorry, but really, supporting pet stores (especially with a dog sale) is a BAD idea. Is he under health warranty? If so, no matter how hard it is you may want to take him back and get a healthy pup from a good breeder. Weaning too soon can cause a lot of emotional/ personality issues in a dog as well as health problems.

I'm not defending the "store", but it actually isn't a petstore
Not a petstore where you can buy dogs/cats/parrets/fish/rats/etc.
It's more of a dogstore. They sell only dogs.
They actually have a very good reputation
..but if there really is no other option, I will have to return him..

*still no news about his status*

I hope the little guy pulls through. I don't know about Belgium, but puppy mills are rampant here in the States. I'm not saying that yours came from a factory farm, but he exhibits symptoms similar to them -- lethargy, failure to thrive, etc. As others have said, many puppies are taken away from their mothers much too soon, and sold to pet stores. They lack nutrients and antibodies from maternal milk, and don't learn pack socialization skills.

Please keep us posted on how he is doing.

I do not yet know what was wrong with Odin.
I'll ask when I get home from work.

Congrats on his coming home and best of luck!

I still prefer the old school people who put a sign out saying puppies 4 sale or free kittens. Or even finding a private breeder much as I do with snakes.

Apparantly little.Odin had some kind of intestinal problem.
He's doing much better now. Yesterday evening and this morning he was
extremely busy bugging his big brother (who wanted to sleep)
He enjoys his food and almost completely drained the water bowl.

I'm so happy :crazy02:
He can jump

Did the vet tell you what his intestinal problem was?

I wasn't home and my GF forgot what the correct name was.
Intestinal problem :shrugs:

Update on Odin:
Has already eaten a few times since this morning (drank as well)
Playing with my other dog's toys, which are to big for him <- this results in funny situations :)

Cute pup! I've never seen a min pin with his natural tail. Is it illegal to dock their tails in your country?

Glad to hear he's feeling better.
