Yeah, I brought him to target once and some prissy lady freaked out because she was scared of him. I left immediately before I got in trouble for bringing an animal in the store. Usually he goes unnoticed and just hangs out in my purse, peaking his head out once in a while so it's not a problem.

you seriously take the snake with you to stores sometimes? Not to rain on your parade but that is a very foolish thing to do.
1. the snake might stress and certainly doesn't have a warm spot.
2. someone could see it and hurt the animal *somone last year had a child step on their burms head and kill it in seconds because it was in a pet expo and they were scared*
3. someone could call the cops who might "detain" you and take the snake away. And as most people know...shelters just kill most pet snakes.
4. Don't go to pet stores to visit...snakes can pick up airborn illness's from the snakes for sale.
So as cute as this is...I would save it for pictures.

It was really nice of you to rain on my parade.
1. I do not let others handle him during outings.
2. Also I'm not going to take him out on a chilly winter day of course, I'm sure a snake won't DIE or even suffer if he isn't on his warm spot for an hour or two. Snakes travel over dirt in their natural habitat that actually doesn't have a heater under it! Imagine that.
3. He is very calm during these outings and actually really likes chilling in my purse, like I said he even sticks his head out to see whats going on. He is used to it.
4. If anyone actually gets close enough to calling the cops, trust me I'm already gone. I'm not an idiot who waits around to get arrested. (plus most of the time he's in my purse and no one see's him)
5. I get your idea on the last one but I did some research and couldn't find any airborn illnesses that snakes can catch. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I didn't find anything. Only airborn human illnesses that humans catch.

This wasn't a very nice reply to someone who is only concerned for the welfare of your snake. I agree with Whippet. Not to dump any more rain on your parade, but most people who take their snakes out in public places are just immature exhibitionists...

Corn Snakes FTW!
I'm don't want to take sides but I do sense more anger more than teaching. Boards are always made up of different people who do and believe in different things and everyone is entitled there opinions but they don't have to be mean about it.
I do go out with my snake when I go for a walk or if I'm going to be sitting at a car show all day so I never really saw the harm in it. Everyday people post up pictures of there snakes outside crawling around on various dirty things and every one seems to be ok with it. So I don’t understand what the harm is in taking out Tang if the snake is used to being in her purse? But I will say that I don't think I would take in any store where they are not allowed, you just can't trust other people these days.
I definitely don't agree with this statement "people who take their snakes out in public places are just immature exhibitionists...". So when you take your dogs out or your children out to a public place do you still think it is immature exhibition? Some people can't have dogs or children and there snake is there buddy so why not take it out with them?
Aren't corn snakes originally a wild animal so what’s the harm in taking it out of your house? People and animals get sick every day, that doesn't mean they have to be cooped up all the time, it's just a fact of life.

I shall lay in wait for a thread in the future about your snakes awful respiratory illness due to being carted around outdoors randomly. Cold weather is not the only way to trigger an RI, there are a magnitude of factors.

If I am an immature exhibitionist then hell, I am PROUD of being the IMMATURE EXHIBITIONIST that I am. You know, being informed and experienced with snakes is all great and wonderful! But if you think you're extra special because you own a bunch of snakes and are more experienced than I in the "snake world" then you should really get your priorities straight. I don't care if you know more about them than I do, it won't keep me up at night, and surely will not make me think any less of myself. My snake is my little buddy and I love to show him off. I take great care of him and he is very happy, I don't see why I shouldn't show him the world and let the world see him. Now let me have my pride. This was supposed to be a fun, friendly thread, it was completely uneccesary to jump down my throat! So all you knowitalls, don't waste your time here. Go somewhere else and rain on someone elses parade!

I've been taking my snake OUTDOORS (OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE IT, A SNAKE OUTSIDE...) since I got him 2 years ago and he has NEVER been sick, ever ever ever! If you've had a different experience, maybe you should pay closer attention to your snake so he/she doesn't get all these illnesses that are so threatening to him/her. I can't believe I even take myself outside... I could get sick!!!
