Why does my guy go to the cool side after eating?

Is there a reason?
He seems to take longer then before when he didn't.
:shrugs:
Temp on the warm side is 77-83

All you can do is provide the correct temp gradient- it is up to the snake to decide what temp he likes. As long as you have hides on both sides, he'll choose the place that is best.

Perhaps he likes the hide better that is on the cool side? Maybe try switching the hides and see if he goes to the warm side then. Cause the snake should really be on the warm side to digest properly unless you just have a really warm cool side? From what I've read, if your snake stays in a temp zone that is lower than about 80 degrees after eating, then it may not be able to digest the food quickly enough and if that happens then you're risking regurgitation. If it were me I'd be quite uncomfortable with that situation. I prefer to see my snake in his warm hide after he eats.

A lot of mine do this, they go to the cool side and can stay there for up to 24 hours before they decide to go to warm side. I'm not sure why they do it, but as long as they don't have regurge issues or anything I don't worry too much about it. I really don't think it's so much a matter of preferring the hide on the cool side, I have tried reversing hides and they will still go for the cool one :shrugs:

Mine spend the majority of their time on the cool side and everyone does just fine. Provide both and leave the rest to them.

I have my 3yr old corn in a 30 breeder with a hide on both the cool and warm side (same type of hides)....temps on the cool side range from 72-76 and the warm side ranges from 80-86, depending on my room. My Corn is always on the cool side.....even after feeding and even at night. If I take the cool side hide out, she will go to the warm sides but as soon as I put the cool side hide back .....Boom she heads right for it. Since I have both hides setup, I can only assume the snake will go where it feels comfortable......

30 breeder is a large tank so you might wanna add another hide in the middle.

I am currently using two large hides in each of the corners and have a piece of grapevine and the large water bowl in the middle of the tank. Unfortunately there would no room for an additional hide.....

I bought some leaf garlands from a craft store when I saw them in other's vivs. Since I put them in my snake uses them as hides in the full length of her viv.
They're not secured in any way, so you can just pick them out on cleaning day. My snake does move them around, but it's no problem.

Alan...that sounds like a goos strategy...I was thinking of making a hide out of my grapevine and some of those plastic flowers that suction cup to the Viv, thereby creating a "see-thru" hide. Do you have any pics of your Viv that you can share?

Thanks,
~S

I have noticed that the females I have will soak in their cold water dish after they eat... not sure why they do this either....
