15 days post Pre-lay shed and nothing?

Talking about not reading the book! Did anyone ever tell your girl what that little "pre" is before "lay" when discribing a shed? LOL I've never heard of a snake shedding during a lay. I'm adding that one to the odd, but happens list. Maybe now she'll have room to squeeze out the rest of those eggs. Like loosening your belt after a big holiday meal.:)
Terri

I must admit she's starting to drive me :crazy02:

I watched her shed and saw there was 1 maybe 2 eggs very near her cloaca and then a gap of 3 or 4 saddles :shrugs: before the next eggs further up, which are all close together but not bunched. She looks to have another 6/7? altogether and I'm wondering if some intervention on my part i.e massaging or exercise of some sort, is called for yet?

I'm going to call my friend in the morning, if nothing has happened and see what he says, unless anyone else has any suggestions :shrugs: I'm starting to get demented here :crazy02:

She must be driving you insane! Hope all goes well with the rest of the clutch popping out soon x

Yet another update 18th May

On veterinary advice I've been giving Angel plenty of breathing space and only checking her once every 24hrs, as she is not in distress and the eggs were all still soft and well spaced out. He didn't recommend surgery or shots and didn't think it was appropriate to aspirate the last egg, as it wasn't very large. He also said he didn't feel she was egg bound.

I am pleased to say at 11am (UK time) this morning, when I checked on Angel, I found she had laid the egg nearest her cloaca in her nest box (possibly a slug but I've popped it in the incubator just in case) and all the other eggs, I think there's another 4 or 5, have now moved down towards her vent. So we have movement, which I'm really pleased about.

So I'm hoping over the next few days, she will pass the rest without intervention from the vet, although he is on standby just in case :)

Thank you to all who have been watching this thread, it really has helped to know you have been thinking of me, even in my demented state :crazy02:

This (and the Lacey ordeal) really makes me anxious to breed my snakes! NOT!! I'd have ripped all my hair out by now- you are staying wonderfully sane! Hoping all goes well from here on out...

No I've not gone bald yet, but I've definitely noticed a few more grey hairs ;)

To be truthful, once the vet and my local breeder said that they'd seen this sort of thing many times and that I should just chill out, it did take the pressure off a bit. It's a bit like when a Doctor tells you, that you haven't got some dreaded disease.

I'm feeling a lot more positive today, because it looks like they are both right and it does go to show that sometimes the waiting game pays off. I'm also really relieved that she probably won't need surgery :)

Sounds like a very sensible vet, hope all continues uneventfully with the clutch laid and your hair-do intact!

Thank you Janine, I think I should have titled this thread "Angel's Saga" ;)

The vet seemed very good, he was very pleased that I kept such good records, which helped him decide which way to go with this. He said too many people don't and it's harder to make the right call in those situations. My rep guy (whose bred corns for many years) said all along, exactly what the vet said, so I'll be more trusting of him in the future too :)

Thanks again for the well wishes, I'll post updates as they happen, I may as well let everyone see it to the end with me now ;)

All this waiting for you girl to lay eggs has me on the edge of my seat. The suspence is killing me! Then I'll have to wait on the eggs to hatch too!! :eek1: I don't think I can handle the pressure.

LOL
I am glad to hear she is doing alright and isn't egg bound.:)

Congratulations on still having a full head of hair! I applaud your patience and the advice you have been receiving. I hope the ordeal is over now and that all the eggs are laid.

Oh woa Sue, this sounds exactly what I went through with Lacey, and she STILL has another clutch to lay. I think we should hit the bottle together to cope with all this LOL

You're on! What's your preference, I have some JD, Brandy, Tia Maria, Vodka, White wine or Red wine? I'm having Tia Maria my self ;)

I'll keep my fingers crossed for Lacey, you keep yours crossed for Angel and if either of us sees that guy Murphy, we can kick his butt, OK :)

And I have a funeral to deal with on Wednesday as well :(

Best wishes to you!

Another update

Well things are progressing slow and steady :)

Yesterday 21st May, Angel laid another egg, which I put in the incubator just in case. The other three I had in there turned yucky so were definitely slugs.

This morning when I got up, I found another egg in her lay box, which looks really good, but I won't be surprised if it isn't, it's in the incubator anyway.

I've spoken to the vet, he's pleased with the progress so far and the remaining 3 eggs are still soft and pliable to the touch and are slowly moving down, so he feels she will not have a problem passing them. He has suggested I offer her another small meal to help move things along, so tomorrow is feeding day :)

I think/hope the end is in sight, thanks to everyone who offered support, it really has helped knowing I'm not alone :)

Fabulous news! I forgot to reply to your previous post, my preferance is deffinatley vodka. Although any more than a litre and I am violently ill for the next week LOL (I speak from a lot of experience, and somehow I never learn).

Now see, I hit the Vodka yesterday at the funeral when everything started to go pear shaped, which is another story, but I'm paying for that today, I'm only just starting to feel human again...lol...but another egg this morning did make me feel better :)

By the way, how is Lacey doing?

Great to hear Sue. Maybe these last few eggs will still be good. *fingers crossed*

I'm really not too bothered as long as Angel is ok, although I will admit I have my fingers crossed too ;)

You poor thing...

Lacey is mahoosive. Shes FULL of lumpy bumpy eggs, large ones which makes me think they may be fertile? The first time round I had a really hard time feeling anything... I need to go rig up my incubator again, I packed it all away as I lost hope :(

Mmm, lumpy bumpy eggs sounds more like fertile eggs *fingers crossed* With Angel this year she swelled but wasn't bumpy like the previous 2 years and she seems to be laying mostly, if not all, slugs.

Never give up hope, these amazing creatures surprise us all the time :)

Good luck and keep us posted ;)
