New Dwarf Nic Boa

Well, thanks to The Guru we have a beautiful adult male Dwarf Nic Boa...
I think he is PERFECT!

I named him Zen...
(essentially to remind myself that calm is the way to go when working with him)

He is settling in nicely and I can't wait to take him out and start working with him.
He has eaten both weeks easily...He is funny...I expected him to strike and constrict off the tongs but so far what has worked (after all the rat wiggling antics), is to put the f/t rat in with him and leave him alone..Gulp! All gone

In these pics he is fat and happy...just ate last night.

Thanks for looking and Thanks Guru...

Very nice looking boy. I have 2 Nics my self and absolutely love them. Nics have a bad rep for being nippy. But I think thats mostly when they are younger and they seem to calm down as they get older. Maybe when they are babies they know they will be the "little" guys so they have to act tough like miniture dogs. LOL

Congrats on you new nic! :)

Wow, he's dark! I'd like to see a pic that compared his size to something. You sure are getting a lot of new guys lately!! Lucky!!

Hey, I would love to hear about yours if you are up to typing.
This is my one and only snake that is not a 'starter type'. I had been grilling Brad about the Dwarfs, and I too had heard about the nippy babies. As luck would have it this boy showed up at Brad's and he gave me a call.
Brad was great...he spent a ton of time showing me how to work with a snake that is not used to you/people...and how to interpret their 'language'.

Yes, and I love his irredescence (sp?).
All our lizards are brumating for the next few months so it seemed like a good time to bring home the last of my wish list...the original plan was that a couple were going to be leaving, but the kids intervened with that;)

I'll go find a ruler for comparison...

Okay, last pics...promise.
Zen went exploring after I took out a few things from his house to clean them...Pics are kinda dark but it gives a better idea of his size...I am thinking he needs more space;)

I've had my Nics since some time around the beginning of the year. The female was a little "iffy" about being handled. She made me nervous for a while. She just always looked like she was ready to get me. LOL I handled them a few times a week and now they both are just as sweet as puppies. The male acts like a lap dog. He like to just hang out. The female is always wanting to explore.

Here's a couple pics my babies. They are a bit bigger now.

I've got a pair of young ones that I'm ready to fly to Nicaragua and turn loose! They are without a doubt the most testy snake outside of a few asian rats I have ever worked with. I'm glad to hear they don't always keep that attitude.

Just keep holding them. Their bound to give up biting you at some point.

Wow!
Bekers71 those little ones have beautiful coloring:)

I am glad to hear they can outgrow their bad reputations:D

I have not tried working with our guy yet...I usually wait until 3 feedings to make sure they are eating and settling in.

Thought I might add some pics of my boyfriend's new Nicaraguan boa, creatively named Nick. We got him in Tampa and he's still just a baby but is very laid back.

He's a beautiful boy but that's not a pure Nic boa. It might be a cross from a nic and some thing else though. First dead give away is there is no cross on the head, over all color is too light and the tail spots are red. I mean I could be way off. But I have never seen a nic look like that. It looks more like a RTB.

Cam, that is a BEAUTIFUL snake!!! Do you know how jealous I am that you live near Jim, Sherry AND the guru? You all have the most beautimus animals. Don't be surprised when I come to sack out on J&S's couch if we don't come knocking on your door so I can get a tour of your beauties!
