How cute is this? I have 3 African Soft fur babies like this right now and planning to keep them for breeders... I am not sure how common it is. Not the best pics sorry.

It's a form of amelanism, believe it or not. ;)

The snowy-colored ones are albino if they have pink/red eyes. Try as you may, you'll never find a darkly colored mouse with red eyes! I've bred the pinkeye out of my colony, as some believe it leads to poor eyesight (my mice double as pets; the ones who aren't eaten young are given to children and petshops).

Congrats on your new find! Btw, I really like the dusty coloration on that fella.

They may look like mice to you (they do at this small stage), but they are still ASF's (abbreviation for African Soft Furred Rat), not mice. Completely different species, ASF's get a lot bigger then mice and their babies are born with hair (ugly little things at that stage)!

I like the pink eyes. I don't have any in my colonies, actually thats the first time I saw one. Did they come from pink eyed parents or did it just pop up?

It just popped up, I guess I had some hets. My adults have had several litters but they usually get fed to snakes before they get this big. I did notice these babkes had lighter fur than their littermates before their eyes opened, and I decided to keep them then. I have probably fed a few to snakes by now that would have looked like this.

They're not albino or amelanistic. The most appropriate term would be argente.

Would love to see a photo of a dark ASF with pink eyes, please?

We use the term "argente" in gerbils, and then, it meant an organgish colored gerbil with red eyes. I guess that would fit well in this situation.

Lol, Triple H. I love it. :dunce:

Honestly, I'd be terrified of something as large as a rat that had a tendancy to bite! More power to you for bravery! :dancer:

I just have a leather "rat glove" that I wear to mess with them. . They haven't hurt me yet, but it still freaks me out a little when they bite even if they are biting the glove and not my hand!

It has been illegal for several years to import ASF's into the US from my understanding. What is currently available have been bred in the US for several generations. You wouldn't "catch" anything you couldn't from a standard mice or rat.

Speaking of catching things from rodents...I was in my OB's office a few weeks ago for my 6 week postpartum and they had new signs up warning pregnant women to avoid handling any sort of rodent because some sort of disease was found in pet shop rodents (mice, rats, guinea pigs, etc) across the US. Anyone read anything about that?

Oh wow. That's kinda scary. I hadn't heard about that, but take care around your little one for sure. I would think that gloves and/or frequent handwashing would eliminate any major risk, but you can never be too careful with children involved.
