That would be.... SCHOOL.. College.. Yes I am 26 years old and I have no degrees and have no clue what the heck I am doing.. Well I finally filled out my information to get student aide and it said I could get about $5100 in Pell grants. OOh... Well, Now I have to pick the school I want to go to(Just community colleges) and figure out what the heck I want to do...

Everytime I enter school I get freaked or stressed out and quit. As soon as I got into the communications class and they said "you have to do a speech" I ran away as fast I could. I'm not a public speaker! I got C's and D's at the previous colleges I attended. I started a Spanish class than got tired of that and quit.

I'm so freakin' scared out of my mind.. I want to just concentrate on school and not have to work all the time. I'm gonna be freakin' exhausted..

For now though I might take an acting class, photography and a few other cool ones. I'll have to start at the lowest level of Math though.. I suck.. Ick. Hate MATH!!

Wish me luck. I don't start until next Semester though.. LOL.

Ahh.. School.. FREAK OUT!
 
Good luck! Don't fret too much! The trick is to figure out what you want to do. That will make you *want* to attend school. That's the only reason I've done so well in my vet tech program. And it's also the only thing keeping me going as I face my national board exam in two weeks..... X_x

I keep changing my mind. Yesterday it was a vet, a few months ago-actress, and now? I have no idea. I keep going back and forth on careers I would be happy with. I hate office work. Not doing that..

if your thinking of an animal-related career, I strongly recommend getting a part-time job at a veterinary office. It acts sort of like an apprenticeship, letting you know what the jobs entail before devoting yourself to the schooling.
 
Industry made this country great (not lawyers or doctors).

And Industry is hurting for lack of people with ENGEERING, think Computer programming (writing machine software, or CNC milling programs) Electrical Design, even skilled labor like Mechanics and Electricians.

And yes, I get a thrill when I walk away from a machine that I made work better!

I started going back to school last year (just part time) since I never completed my first round of college (with a degree in sculpture) and have decided to start over with a more practical degree that will lead to a real job. I am a huge fan of the elderly and have been working with them for seven years...so decided to get my RN nursing degree and I am doing it through a community college. It's a "two year program" that really takes at least 3. It pays well and if you can handle the very personal gory details of people ...it maybe the career for you. Pay is excellent, jobs are plentiful!
No matter what you choose...good luck and have fun!
 
I really wanted to be a vet way back in high school. But then I realized all of the math and science (some of which takes a decent foundation in math) I would have to take, and decided that was not for me!

OTOH, I took public speaking in both H.S. and college. It was great fun! If you like acting, you can enjoy the speech class, too. Just be creative in the subjects you choose. Although there may not be TOTAL freedom in choosing your subjects, there is usually a lot of freedom. Just remember, if you choose a subject that you have more knowledge than most of your classmates (and teacher), that will give you the confidence you need to make a great presentation.

Our teacher did not allow live animals, but that did not stop several of us from speaking about live animals, and using some very interesting visual aids (anything EXCEPT the live animal itself!). So be creative with it, and you really can enjoy it.

I worked several years as an LPN. For anyone who likes working with people, I would highly recommend the RN course. There are jobs available even in a bad economy, and once you have experience, it is a very versatile degree, ESPECIALLY if you can stick out the 4 year BSN degree. Then you could have a choice of working in hospitals, nursing homes, as a school nurse, private duty, administration, education, medical sales - so many different types of jobs in the health field that would work. Don't think of it as just working in the usual hospital setting that you see on TV medical shows.

If I could start over and be 20 or so, knowing what I do now, I would probably get the RN degree, and do part time work, either private duty or in education, so I could do only the reptile breeding that I really like, instead of having to depend on it for my full time income.

Argh, I can relate, a bit. A year ago I finished a degree in the veterinary field, realized that I hated the field altogether, and left. Now I have to start from scratch. *cry*

Oh good for you!

Try to take your schoolwork in increments so you don't get overwhelmed or irritated with it. A little bit at a time, especially if you're working. The acting class is a great idea to help you get used to speaking in front of a class.

Geesh...I'm scared now after reading that about vet schools......coincidentally, I was looking up vet admission requirements in another browser at the same time! I honestly don't think I could be satisfied with any other career path....I've never wanted to be anything but a vet.


Good luck with school, I'm sure you'll make it through fine! I thought I sucked at math, recently took a dreaded calc class and managed to pull off an a... I think you'll surprise yourself and do great!
 
I don't know about the vet schools in Canada, but in most of the US, it is HORRIBLY competitive just to get in. I have a friend who had a great GPA, and even got a Master's in biology, but still couldn't get in, at least here in Florida. I think he finally gave up and decided on something else.

I would suggest that you talk to some vets who recently graduated schools in your area. Then you can get the REAL scoop about what it is like to do what you want to do. If you decide you want to do it, NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES, then go for it!
