My place of work happens to open out to a creek in back. We have benches out there, and sometimes I like to go and lift them up, just to see what's hiding. Today was a pretty good day for the finds!

Yesterday I caught this little guy and took him home with me for the night and released him this morning right where I found him. He must have only recently hatched. Tiniest one I've ever caught.

Sceloporus occidentalis, also known as the Blue Belly or Swift.

Too cute! Look at those tiny toes!

Bench lifting with my friend Marissa... Mostly bugs and frogs. Sometimes a salamander.

But this time...

I believe that guy is a skink, but I'm not sure. He could also be an oddly colored alligator lizard? Whatever he was, I don't normally see his kind around.

Also with him were some tree froglets. I love these guys. They change color from the dull gray seen here to this beautiful emerald green. They weren't happy with me and so weren't wanting to change color much.

If I had the energy to spare, I would have kept that teeny blue belly. I love them! .... but feeding him fruit flies or pinhead crickets twice a day would have slowly driven me insane. PLUS buying up all the supplies to keep him healthy.

Kewl thread! Wish I could find those things around here. BUT, the wife would go insane. LOL.

Catching salamanders would be FUN!

I can see a partial Tatoo... Any chance we can see the whole thing? LOL.

Yep! It can be very rewarding. :D

That'll be up to Marissa since I'm the one behind the camera in these shots.

Carol, Maybe I'll have to keep a pair next year to rub pinkies on. XD

Yes, you may :).

:-offtopic (but I can't help it)

Awwww! I love Maneki Neko's! A friend of mine has one, too. They make great tattoo subjects! I had a beloved kitty pass away in Oct that was suspected to be part Jap Bobtail, which is the breed the Maneki neko's are based on. I'm seriously considering getting one (the tattoo) in honor of my kitty. Your's is beautiful!

(my sincerest apologies for the off-topicness) [insert smiley code for "sheepish" here... but there isn't one]

I'm sorry to hear about your kitty :(.
I got the Maneki because I really like the meaning behind it and it just so happens I am a cat person. I had my tattoo artist draw with both paws up in hopes to invite people and wealth into my life, this little guy is my good luck charm! I did a looooot of research on the history behind it. I wanted red for luck, a bell to awaken the spirit and calico colors for luck. This is my first tattoo but I would love to get more!
