well.... Isn't this every snake keepers nightmare?

Canadian Boa Fanatic.
Ok guys, to make a long story short... one of my sisters friends who is a PETA freak, Decided while I was at work, that it was cruel to keep snakes in cages, So she took it upon herself to open EVERY tank/rack... I don't even think she could fathum the financial worth of these animals let alone the fact that they are happy in captivity...

I came home from work, and to my shock, seen my big female boa (8+ feet and 30+ lbs) Staring straight at me in the main hallway, So I picked her up quick and rushed to the snake room.. and I was devastated... I seen EVERYTHING wide open.

At the start, total missing count was 11 boas (All designer morphs :|:|)
And 7 Carpets.

After the first hour I found EVERY boa, And they were all returned to their rightful places... the carpets eluded me for several hours, Finally I did find most of them..

Still on the loose is one 3 year old sub adult female, and my 09 88% male Jungle jag (favorite snake in my collection).

I'm not as worried about the jungle as I am the jag, i'm sure a 3 year old snake can tough out a bit of cool weather... but the jag, i'm not sure about..

I need any ideas, or hints to find them. I've searched the forums for past threads and didn't find too much info, Where have you guys found carpets when they get out??

Thanks for ANY help in advance..!

Dude I would have knocked the crud out of her I am so sorry. Being a PETA freak doesn't poo for brains realize doing that endangered them more than leaving them be? Keep looking is all I can say the 3 year old should be easier to spot than the wee one- maybe leave food out and hope they come hungry.

Carpets like to climb though so looking up can't hurt in boxes, under clothes, and close to the reptile room for sure. Don't give up and if they remain unfound I'd be sending her a bill and proecuting if she doesn't pay. I would also make that one guest not allowed back in your house:(

Sorry to hear that baiting them maybe not really sure in furniture etc. I think you need locks from here on out and I would press charges if at all possible that is inexcusable behavior period. This coming from a tree hugging, animal rights, global warming save the planet nut like myself..

Create a warm hide somewhere in your room. Maybe create several throughout the house. Hopefully it will seek out the heat and you'll find it in one of the hides in the morning. Good luck.

I can't even imagine how angry I would be if I were you. :realhot: But first things first, get the snakies back where they belong.

Oh my god what a b****!!!

Sorry just had to get that out.

I can't think of any advice other than what has already been said so good luck!

Wow... if something like that was done to me I'd do everything humanely possible to make sure said person doesn't set foot in my house... and would have taken legal actions if possible.

Regardless, good luck with finding your snakes... the best advice I can give you is look for the least expected places(which is kind of hard since they are the least expected) and keep an eye out. :/

Wow. I can't even imagine. I hope you find them all and get them returned to their homes unscathed. After that I'd place a pad lock on the door to your snake room. Good luck, Ryan!

I've been Slowly tearing this room apart inch by inch, cleaning one corner... checking everywhere, then movign stuff to that corner after its been completely checked... its going to be a long process.. but I hope i can get those two back ASAP. the female was set to breed later this winter.. and the male is way to young to be on the loose.

I would go to the hardware store and buy a locking doorknob. I would give no one the key unless you wanted too.

Good luck finding the rest and sorry to hear about such a foolish incident.

Seems to me that this person is guilty of breaking and entering and attempted robbery, since the animals she released were worth quite a penny.

If I were you, I'd have her arrested for breaking and entering or trespassing at least. Than make sure she never, ever, ever, sets foot on your property again.

I agree strongly with all this. Legal action is required.

If you can't, I think this is one case where I might well punch someone in the face.

wow man.

I hope you find them Ryan. I also think laying charges is in order.
People can't just run around doing what they want.

Good luck finding them. Keep us posted.

Do you actually think there is grounds for legal actions? She was Invited into my house by my sister, therefore she was "allowed" to be in the building, She did this while my sister was in the shower and getting ready to go out apparently...

Also, would the police just not laugh in my face when i told them the value of some of my snakes? If you weren't in the hobby, what would you think if someone told you they had snakes worth up to 2500$ for a single snake.

I just couldn't see it making it to court or even getting a sentence.

There's always the punching her in her face thing.... :angry01:

20 year old Male, Punching 16 year old female... I see this idea causing alot of troubles for me lol :uzi:

It depends on her age(Is she a minor?),
You would also need to show proof of the snake's value, be it receipts or an estimated value evaluated by someone who is qualified to do so.

If you have a way to consult a lawyer- do so. In face, it can actually become a big deal if you take a legal route saying that PETA advocates or encourages their supporters to basically hurt another people's property- and by so doing actually endangering the animals they claim to adore...

I doubt it's worth your while but... I am not a lawyer, let alone in the US law system

There's still two snakes missing. Who's to say she didn't steal them? (I know she didn't, but the police don't.)

Even without legal consequences, I think a run in with the police might scare her from doing something so stupid again.

I personally would at least file a complaint. Let her get a visit from the local law enforcement agency. Her parents might actually be appalled at what their little darling did at someone else's residence. If she was invited in to your home and beat your dog or cat, legal action could be taken, so I'm not sure why this would be any different. Your high priced snakes could very well die due to her overly zealous behavior.
