well.... Isn't this every snake keepers nightmare?

I kind of wish she would have tried to steal one of the carpets... then my sister would have ran downstairs to her friend screaming.. and I would have known about this all the sooner.. the carpets are MEAN.

Anyways, I'm going to go down and see what the police say after a few more quick searches of the room.. the more time that passes the worse off the little guy will be.. Thanks for the advice so far, and if anyone has more tricks they use to track down, or entise a snake out of hiding.. feel free to let me know.

Is there any chance that your sister can get her to understand that the snakes are likely to die outside the controlled environment of their tanks? Ask her how it feels to be someone who has deliberately tried to kill animals, and how that sits with her principles.

The double standards of these people is unbelievable. Some AR nuts let all the mink out of a fur farm in my area, and over the last ten years they've decimated the local wildlife and are spreading.

Usually I'm a gentle man to woman and would never lay a hand on one but in this case if it happened to me I could see those rules getting bent alittle....

I get extremely defensive of my reptiles to and I've "flipped out" on my brother and his friends before for messing with them when I'm not around so I know how who feel to a degree. I could only imagen how angry I'd be if they were all loose. You have to definately do somthing though, atleast make sure she never steps foot in the house again!

Would a very gentle tape sticky side up around doorways help trap them? I don't know if it will if they are big.

Good luck, I think I would make her help you hunt for them I would involve her parents, that is unacceptable whether she was invited in the house or not. Like someone else said Locks are your friend!

My heart goes out to you!

I agree with Lori call her parents ASAP. Explain the overall value of your collection and the current value of the two missing. Let them know if their not found by Monday you expect payment in full for both of them. If they say "no" let them know then you will have to file charges. Be mature, don't yell, curse, or throw a tantrum. Be serious, firm, and follow through with filing those charges if they do not pay up.

I don't know about Canadian law, but here in the US this would suffice as animal cruelty and you could sue for the value of the snakes. Keep looking and good luck!!

So sorry about this, Ryan. I certainly hope you find your two missing ones soon.

I do agree that a visit to the police station is in order... so that you can make sure that this PITA doesn't come by your house again. I like the idea of the locking door knob ('cause you know... ALL sisters listen to their older brothers (TONS of sarcasm)). Also, a nice and gentle talk with the girl's parents might also be in order... if the police don't. Since she's a minor, her parents are liable for any losses, just like I would be if my son walked into a store and destroyed a computer in that store.

I'm going to give it till Friday before I go to the police, thats two more night searches for them. I notified the parents and they didn't seem to care, they said snakes weren't meant as pets anyways... I told them If I didn't find them by Friday, I'd be going to the police and pressing any possible charges if they weren't willing to cooperate or repay me for my losses,

Its already below 0 up here in canada, and outside the snake room the house gets very cold....

Why wait? Regardless of whether you find them or not, she did what she did. Hold her accountable. Just my opinion. Good luck.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I know how that feels.

Just make sure that you have all the proper paper work and everything is in order, legal wise, before you get the law involved.

First Ryan, I'm truly sorry to hear what happened. I hope you find them soon.

I agree with the others who mentioned talking calmly to her parents. I know if I had hear one of my kids did something like that they'd WISH the cops would have picked them up first...lol

I tried to make the parents take into account that their daughter had released just over ten thousand dollars worth of snakes (current canadian market value) and the mother just laughed at me and said I was stupid for spending any money on them when she could just go out side and catch some....

Fingers crossed that I find these last two... its really tearing me up :S

Jee I wonder where the girl got her lack of respect for other people's pets or to some property.

The longer you wait with the police the harder it might be to file on her.

I'm glad that you've found most of your snakes, and my prayers for you to find the still missing two. It really could have been alot worse...she could have left the front door and every window open or they could have actually been stolen.

And the police will probably want proof of that she did it. Accusations without proof will only get you into trouble.

And I wonder how she would like it if something of value that she owns goes missing?

Did you tell the girl the snakes will die if you don't find them? Get her over to help look! And DO NOT wait to go to the police, tell her mom that's what you're doing and see if she laughs in your face again.

What you spend your money on is your business, just because she wouldn't pay that much for a snake doesn't mean that isn't what they're worth. What she did was WRONG and she needs to pay for it.

The longer you wait the less helpfull it will be in your defense, you should have
gone to the police asap and filed a report with them. I wouldn't wait the 2 days. With the price that these snakes are worth you can even take her to small claims court (minor or not). But don't wait to long or it could hurt your case.

Something people do for corns is sprinkle flour around hard surfaces so that the snake will leave a record of where it's been if it moves.

People also try putting plastic bags around so that you can hear them if they move about.

Do you have any cats or dogs? Watch them carefully-they usually find people's snakes before the people do.

I hope that since it's only warm in the snake room, the little one won't leave it.

oh - and any further contact with little miss poo for brains and her mom needs to be done over e-mail, I can't say this enough, PAPER TRAIL. Tell them you're going to the police and get them mad enough to defend themselves over e-mail, hopefully admitting to what she did. Get it in writing!

I woudln't wait either. The police will more than likely ask you why you waited so long to report it. Regardless of whether you find them or not, she did what she did today, and she should be held accountable for her actions, TODAY.

Geez, I didn't even see this post. I guess that's where she got her lack of respect for another person's property. Nice.
