USPSTF has been around for several decades. I do feel this recommendation is based on $$ but I highly doubt it was requested by the White House or Congress. It was developed by people who do Public Health, and from that perspective, tiny increases in benefit brought about by very large costs are not worth it. To the individual patient & her physician, a very large cost that saved her life is absolutely worth it, but from a Public Health perspective, that money would be better spent somewhere else on something that saved MORE lives.
Without protection from medical malpractice suits brought by patients whose breast cancer wasn't detected a year sooner, physicians aren't going to implement this one unless a law is passed that prevents them from doing annual mammograms starting at age 40, BTW. So I doubt much will change on the ground.
