Can someone please tell me what thread and or sticky explains the number and decimal system used for cornsnake ownership in their signature lines?

I am trying to wrap my head around it and would like to set mine up since I own now.

Thanks for any help all.

HI Sindrik

First zero = number of males. secound zero = number of females, thrid zero = number of unknown/unsexed

I add the year to mine most folks don't but mine reads...

05' 0.0.1 amel, 07' 1.0.0. butter, 09' 1.1.0 snow stripe

2005 1 unknown amel. then I have a 2007 male butter then I have 2009 one male and one female snowstripe.

Yep, that's correct enough. I'd personally go 0.1, 2013 anery.

You don't have to include the third digit if you know the gender(s) of the animal(s). ;) Of course you CAN include it, if you wish, but if the third digit is zero, it's not really necessary, IMO.

You can use my signature as a reference, if you would like. I'll translate it in case that helps...

4.5 cornsnakes = I have 9 corn snakes (4 male, 5 female)
1.0 MBK = 1 Mexican Black Kingsnake (male)
The zoo = 1 dog (male), 2 cats (both male), 4 sugar gliders (2 male, 2 female), 1 husband (male), one human child (male)

Hope that helps clear things up. It was a little baffling to me when I first joined, too. I swear there used to be a Sticky about it, but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

I'm assuming if you don't state the type of snake it's essentially implied since this is a cornsnake forum, right?

Or should I put CS/Cornsnake or something of that matter after the numbers and year? Matter of preference?

That's up to you. As you said, though, since it is a cornsnake forum, we generally assume "cornsnake" unless otherwise stated. :D

Also, welcome!

Thanks Cynthia, loving this place as it has a ton of helpful info you can't just get at most local pet stores. Though I love my guy I found down in Chester, Va.

I appreciate all your help and hopefully don't burn out my welcome with too many questions, haha.

Also, the apostrophe would go before the numbers, so 2013 would be '13, not 13'. Grammatically the apostrophe takes place of what you are replacing, in this case the apostrophe takes place of "20". In a word, an apostrophe is used as a contraction, like "don't", it takes place of the second "o" in "do not". Just a little English lesson for you!!!
