Hey Mike, They Are Falling From the Sky!

False Prophet
So, I'm in my room feeding the '06's when I hear Kate yelling, "Joe, come in here!". I figure it's just another man eating spider in need of killing so I answer, "What?". Kate yells, "Get in here now!". Ok, it's a huuuuge man eating spider like an Alien Face Sucker, (Huntsman Spider). I put away the hatchling I was moving back into her tub and stroll into the office to see Kate pointing above the window asking, "Did you lose a snake?". I looked and replied, "Not one of mine...." I look again.... "That's a Yellow Rat Snake, grab a Sterilite!!!" Kate brought me a tub and I climbed up on the Automan and grabbed him from off the sill. I have no idea how he got in the house, let alone above the window past us, the dogs, and even the cats... He wasn't too distressed over the whole capture, and when I moved him to the big sterilite that I prepared for him he drank like he was in the desert for weeks.... Then he guarded his new bowl....

ok, far enough for today....

Never thought much of Yellow Rats, but what's one more.... :grin01:

Suuuh-weeeet! That's an awesome looking yellow rat. Looks like you raised him yourself. Really nice color-- makes you wonder if he's one of those Everglades/Yellow intergrades (I know nothing of their geographical distribution-- or yours for that matter ;) ).

:-offtopic
Can't say this kind of thing NEVER happens up here in the North. My snake-hating friend had an Eastern Milk drop on her from a rafter in her basement. She told me it was over five feet long, and that she had the photos to prove it. I used Serp's length program on the most suitable photo, and there's no way it was even two feet. Weighed maybe 120g max. :grin01:

He (or she as the case may be) is quite a pretty snake.
I just couldn't believe it...I was sitting at my home computer on my lunch hour and kept seeing something moving out of the corner of my eye. I have this Christmas Dove thing that moves in the breeze that hangs up there as well so at first didn't really think anything of it....but it kept nagging at me so I finally glanced up and almost fell out of the chair when I saw a snake. The sill where he was hanging out is about maybe 7 feet up and there isn't any easy way up there. Not to mention, like Joe said, how it got past us and the furry pets. Joe was sitting in that room most of the day so it either had to be there before he got in there or somehow made it all the way up there without him noticing.
Either way...totally cool moment to find a live wild snake in the house!!

He's got a couple scars that don't look too deep, and his colors look pretty good with the flash.... He's the same length as the '04's but a little on the thin side compared to them, understandably being WC. I'll weigh him after quarentine and work the serp program on him to know for sure....

Hes just gorgeous!!! A really nice example of a yellow rat. You going to keep him or let him go again?
Not sure what I'll do with him, I live in a pretty busy area and it's quite hazardous, so I can't see letting him loose in the yard. He'll have to eat for me first though... If I don't keep him, I'll see if Mike wants to add to his WC collection... :grin01:

Hmm. Seems I need to move to Florida. The only snakes I've ever had in a house in AZ were venemous, and I don't keep those. . . What a fun find! I don't think I've ever seen a yellow rat before, and it's a cool-looking snake.

That's a real nice looking snake.

Next nature hike herping trip will be in Kate and Joe's livingroom. BYOB!:grin01:

very nice pick-off........seems to me that snakes just fall out of the sky/ceiling/overhead doors down there in FLA. must be nice, you don't even have to pay for them no more over there.

Never seen a Yellow Rat...

before? They can be a pretty impressive animal. I've caught four snakes over seven feet. Two of them were yellow rats, both 7'2". And usually they are out to ruin your day from the get go. And musk! :puke01:
Good snag Joe. This side of the state must be full of yellows. I have two. One was a little booger Lisa caught on her first road cruising experience. The second we will keep because she caught him while outside on the phone with me. She was trying to quit smoking. She was so exited, scooped him up, and hasn't had a cig since.

Just dropping in to say hello? That does seem to happen quite often on that side of the country. I keep thinking I live in the wrong state and you guys just keep proving me right.

Great find and capture! Just don't try to take his water dish away now that you gave it to him right? lol

My fault Mike. New guy in Clearwater had posted pics of one he found at Fort DeSoto and I put a link to this thread in his to show him one of the only "wild" snakes I have seen!
