'she' was a he

I bought this '05 anery motley stripe as supposedly a female. I was a bit suspicious when 'she' went off her food this week. I took 'her' out and took a close look at the tail... kind of square and not tapered.
So I put 'her' in with another unrelated anery mot female that just shed yesterday and lo and behold, 'she' everted a nice set of hemis and began pursuing the female. I guess someone made a mistake when sexing this snake!
Oh well... I guess the good news is I don't have to wait another year to mix these genes into my stock... I'm still a bit miffed it's a male though. I registered it with ACR as 'Ghost House's Artemis'... but I guess I will have to change the name now.

Well, at least you're a year ahead! I didn't know they took out their hemipenes before actually needing it...

lol, I've noticed it more in the 'adolescent' males and first time breeders. I guess this all works out for the best, both of these anery mots are supposedly het for stripe and hypo so it's a good match. Also I was unable to breed this female to my ghost stripe male because she was reluctant and he was lazy, but this little male had lots of energy to pursue her and managed to hook up with her.

At least you found out early and are still able to fit him in your plans. As for the name, you could always say you named him after Artemus Gordon from the Wild Wild West and the ACR made a typo. But then again, there is also the sex listed in the ACR...

I have been on both ends of gender mixups in snakes... man there is just no way to make that sound right.

Happens to everyone.

Sorry about that!

Well that happend to me just this month I have a male ghost, and I was told it was a normal female (hets unknown) she/he was a rescue, Cooled them both waited for the one i was told was female to shed and then tossed the ghost male in there.... Hmmmm talk about fight, then I called a friend of mine to come over and probe it YUP it was a male also. SO Now I'm looking high and low for a female.

Unfortunately people make mistakes... I will have to send the certificate in to ACR to change the sex, this little fellow will now be named Achilles. I just have to do the paperwork.
Chuck (serpwidgets) told me that probably one in 16 snakes is mis-sexed, pretty scary huh?

Yeah this year I found out my Anery Stripe Motley went from "SHE" to "HE" real fast and was breeding every female! I was kinda mad but then realized "HE" was better because I had alot of females for him. Sometimes it works out and others...well you know the disappointment!

I'm really glad I didn't sell off one of my anery mot females when I thought I had 3 of them! I almost sold one but the deal didn't happen. I have an extra male, but I guess it's not that bad, I will just have an excuse to keep some more females this year or something to make up for it. I just sold 2 of my adult females that didn't really fit my plans early this year so I have 4 left, and all 4 bred this year as well as my Durango kings so that ought to keep me plenty busy!
