Actually I would say these would be a great choice for a first gecko. They require no heat like a leo. They due quite well between 60-80 degrees. Now they do like to jump and climb. Just as long as you keep them in something with a lid, and out of the reach of "cat-dog" they'll be fine. I just recently picked up the crested gecko diet, so I am hoping they will switch over to that. BUt yes you can just feed them the "diet" and you'll not need to use crix. I feed both baby food and crix every other day. Trust me once you get one, you'll want more and more and more...
