Accents... Whats yours

I don't really know. I've never thought about it. I do have fun imitating other accents, though, so some words do stick out when I say them.
Katie, Nanci, what do I sound like? :roflmao:

So, I have found a nation in denial..... LOL
None of you have an accent, according to you....
I know I have an accent, because I know I'm Welsh and you all have accents also.
The only way you cannot have an accent, to me, is if your from my town, and your not.
Even Dave who lives about 5 miles from me sounds totally different to me.
So get your voices on this thread and let us decide if you have an accent or not, come on what are you all afraid of, sounding dumb or something.... LOL

OK. I am from the Maine and we definitely have our own dialect here that is even different then having a Massachusettes accent. I don't have anything recorded but to give you an idea say this sentence out loud exactly as it is spelled.

"I pahk'd my cah intha yahd..... ayuh."
("I parked my car in the yard..... yup")

If you think that's bad you should talk to me on the phone. ;)

Jay

Mmm, I'm very Californian. Dunno what accent that would be, but I talk way too fast and say "hella" a lot. :p

I have a slight southern accent. In Kentucky, especially some of the rural areas, people don't think I am from Kentucky.

A couple of words that always give me away are

hours, when I say it sounds like "ires"

and July, it sounds like "Juliiii"

I was actually TOLD by a language teacher that I don't have ANY kind of accent. I've grown up a little of all over, so I guess it IS possible.

You've heard me speak, Mike, how would you describe my accent?
I can do absolute cut-glass upper class twit if I want to, I probably lost my native 'Sarf Lundun' accent as a result of going to grammar school and then away to university. So I would imagine I fall in to the middle range normally, but it's hard to judge your own voice.

I grew up in the desert southwest, El Paso and Albuquerque. There's not much of an accent in that part of the country, unless it's Spanish, so I don't have much in general - sort of "basic American". However, I can get down and Texas good ol' boy with the best of them when the situation warrants.

Much of my life was spent in El Paso (My hometown), but I can only "pretend" to have a southern accent... LOL. I DO, however, use "ya'll" even when typing!

I know how a lot of you look and I know what a lot of you keep, but I don't know how you sound....
Sometimes I try to imagine how your accent sounds as I read your posts... LOL
I know you have as many different accents as we have over here, so I thought I would start an accent thread....
This is my accent.... South Wales
So now you can imagine my voice as you read my threads..... :grin01:
"bloody brilliant"
I'm from Ohio, that's the midwest even to midwesterners ( Why are we called that, we're not anywhere near the middle of the West, Oh yeah, it was probably coined when Kentucky was the West).
We are the only people in the world with no accent, TV personalities train to speak like us...does a slight lisp count? lol

there is definitely some 'twang' in there! lol

Yeah, it's in there. Northern Virginia isn't too "drawly" but you can definitely notice the accent. Time killed most of my PA Dutch, I still say "gunna" and sometimes "down" comes out as "don".

I also, possibly unfortunately, have a bit of yooper accent in me. Most of my relatives live in the UP so I picked up a lot of accent up there. I say 'eh' and 'yah' way too much. And sometimes my th's come out as d's...over there = over der. It's not something I'm particularly proud of

My yooper relatives can hear the wisconsin accent...my wisconsin friends can hear the yooper.

I've grown up and lived all over, so I'm not sure I have an accent. I started out in Southern California, then moved to Pennsylvania for about 3 years. Then I moved to Idaho, and have lived here for a long time, 10 years. Maybe I will record something too.
