Adopted a male.. Now it's laid eggs! Help!

Hi, I adopted a classic corn from my local council a few months ago. I was told it was a male, but about 8 weeks ago he wen off his food and got really active. I took him to my local pet shop who checked him over and sexed him... Turns out HE is a gravid female! Anyway she's laid her eggs and i'm currently incubating them on the off chance she's been fertilized at the council office as she was sharing a viv with 2 other corns! All of the 13 eggs have stayed a nice White colour, some of them are starting to swell a bit too and none of them have caved in. I've candled them and all of them have veins in them.. It's day 46 today.. If any hatch what the hell do I do??!! I've got space to keep them, spare heat mats and water dishes etc.. Can I keep them together? What will they eat?! Thanks in advance. Dan
 
Dan, you'll get different opinions on this, but...jmho...you can keep the babies together in a separate viv, feeding them in individual feeding containers...provide a deep layer of aspen (or whatever substrate you use), several different small hides, water dish, heating pad, etc. I've kept clutches of corns like this for about three-four months before separating them out w/o any feeding/growth/illness etc issues...Baby corns start out on pinky (baby) mice

Get three or four meals in them and find good home for them. Give them away for free or at a pet shop for trade for food and or supplies.
 
Oh my god! I was told corns wouldn't eat each other! I think I'll separate them just incase. I'd feel awful if anything like that happened. Also I forgot to ask.. Is there anything I should be doing for the mother? She seems fine now and is back to eating 2 adult mice every 5 days. She's 5 foot 2 inches and about 3-4 inches round. I haven't weighed her though.
 
Just keep feeding the mother until she is back to her pre-gravid weight, and expect her to lay another clutch right around the time these hatch.
 
nope corns will eat each other, although it's not as common as with other snakes. they're born as lizard eaters, afterall, and have to be made to develop a taste for pinks ;)

it's a bit sad when it happens, and usually a good way to prevent cannibalism is to keep them all separate, but if you're forced to cohab for a day (a tank breaks or something) then you should try to find one of almost the same size, harder for them to try to nom each other. and even then, if you see any signs that one or the other snake is very negative about the cohab, find a shoebox or something, anything, and put the animal in that, even if it's an adult... it should be fine for a day as long as you take it out and handle it so it can stretch out. it's like a large hide that they're stuck in for a day.
 
Thanks very much for all your help! I've set up a nest box in moms viv incase she double clutches. I'm so excited to see if they hatch! I'll put pics up if they do because I have no idea what she bred with so I'll need some help I.Ding the babies! Thanks again! Dan
 
a good pippie thread is always enjoyable, we look forward to it :) i think you've got around 2 weeks left before they'll hatch, so keep us posted :)
 
Oooh! Exciting! Can't wait to see what hatches (snakes of course lol. I wouldn't expect puppies :p but I mean morph/pattern/colour etc)

Sorry to start this thread again.. Nanci, i'm not sure what she weighed when i got her, but she now weighs 640 grams. does this sound healthy? thanks
 
if she doesn't look skinny (spine obvious, ribs easy to feel, skin loose or wrinkly between sheds), then she's probably at a good weight :) I don't know about the weights for adult 5+ft corns D8
