Anyone breed Grey Banded Kings?

I'e always gotten bad, angry vibes from lots of the other reptile forums online so I figured I'd ask on here, where I love everyone :p

Does anyone breed Grey banded kings? Or, do you know a good forum for them?

I'm looking for 1.1 of them but I also enjoy learning about new species...

Shannon has a great variety of locality grey bands of a wide variety. I have a pair of Langtry blair's phase from him...

Shannon that Chris mentioned does produce some outstanding graybands.
I have bred them in the past, but not this year. I didn't brumate them and I am giving my female the year off.

Wow those are some lovely looking snakes. I have always heard king snakes are mean though.

You so shouldnt have told me that Nanci. Bad bad bad idea lol.

Yeah, all of the mexicana group, alterna included, are pretty docile. Some can be picky feeders from the start, but once they get going, they are pretty cool animals to have around.

Pssst...alterna haven't been part of the mexicana complex for close to 10 years now. Just thought you might wanna know that...

If you want a greyband king, make sure you get one from a reliable and reputable breeder. They are very difficult to get started on pinkies(especially males), and there are some unscrupulous dealers that try to sell non-established babies at full price. Shop around. Generic greybands can be had for about $25-50 for established feeders. Localities will always be more expensive and heavily aberrant patterns will, obviously, command a higher price tag.

I highly recommend you get one that is already a WELL established F/T feeder. They are great animals to have once they get established, but can be a right pain in the arse for someone that isn't prepared and willing to accept their tendencies...

I have to agree that graybands, if purchased from a reputable breeder and already eating mice, are one of the greatest snakes to own. I am also not fond of the more "aggressive" king species, but I love my graybands as well as my Thayeri (variable kingsnake) and my Mex-Mex (San Luis Potosi kingsnake). They are all extremely docile and beautiful.

So Mike would be a reputable breeder. I wouldn't hesitate to buy an established grayband from him. That would be cool if he could get some pics of his locality graybands up!

Shannon has an excellent reputation, but I don't know him personally.

You can check the reputation of _anyone_ by looking them up on the Board of Inquiry. It's really a good idea when buying any snake, even if they are a "big name" breeder. There is a link in the listing of forums here.

Chris, you are a piece of work man.

Like Nanci said, check the BOI on anybody before you buy from them.

Oh it will be awhile before I add more snakes. I am moving in a week cross country so settling in first is a must!
I was just curious though because all of the king snakes I have seen in stores have been really really mean. But they were also either all black or the black with white bands.

Actually, they ARE still part of the mexicana complex. They are NOT currently considered a subspecies of L. mexicana like they were in the past, but that doesn't mean they still aren't part of the mexicana complex.

"Complex" doesn't mean "species" or even a single taxa. Just thought you might wanna know that...
