ASFs in Florida?

Yes you can. I have a buddy in tampa that raises them along with all sorts of rodents. Look up the suncost herp society. Look on the site where the classifieds are, his name is John Soto his number is there.

But be careful which bloodlines you get!

I got some at the Tampa show years ago (can't remember from whom) and they are quite tame. But I have heard that some lines are vicious and not very likely to become tame.

I really like these guys! I had quite a nice colony going in my rodent room. But they got some kind of mites that were also on the mice and rats. The other rodents didn't seem too affected, but my ASF were EATEN UP! I lost a number of them before I even realized what was going on. Then a vet suggested that I spray them with a dilute spray of Ivermectin. They were all dead within a day or so. So I would suggest keeping them separate from other rodents. I would probably try a No Pest Strip type treatment if I ever got the parasite problem again, although I don't know whether that would work, or cause problems, ether.

I had given some of my babies to a friend when I first started raising them. So my bloodlines are still available to me when I am ready to get back into raising them again. If you can't find any in Tampa, let me know and I will ask if he has some extra to sell to you. (My friend is also in Tampa).

I have i nice colony of these guys and i have been developing an albino line of asf rats im almost at the point of having a fully albino colony, but like Kathy said u have to have a really good bloodline so u dont have to deal with highly aggressive females when it comes time to remove baby feeders. Also Robbie is right about the fact that u can find them at almost all the Repticon shows.
