The snake from before was a baby as well. I had it two years ago but it never got to be more than 6 months. It was pretty hard on me as I was really attached to him

The thermostat will control how hot the heat mat can get. You plug the thermostat into the wall outlet & plug the heat mat into the thermostat. The thermostat has a probe that you put inside the tank, on the glass, over the heat mat. Hot glue works to hold the probe in place. Google hydrofarm thermostat, they are for plants but many people here (including myself) use them for reptiles.

As others have said, you really need something to control the warm side temps. You see Hot > Cooler > Cold = Options... Snake sees "That's too cold, I'll die, but it's waaaaay too hot over here it's making me crazy!" A snake will go where it *needs* to, which in the case of severe gradients, can be more harmful than if they didn't.

Ok so I ordered that but as far as what the "ideal" temperature I have no idea what it should be. From what I've googled peoples opinions are varying greatly

I would recommend getting a god care book. I just picked up the complete owners guide by the Loves and it has been super helpful! and on Amazon it was like 5 bucks. 5 bucks is a great price for education and peace of mind! (and no, I am so not an expert!)

Feel the glass above the UTH. Is it very warm to your touch? If so, it is WAY to hot for your snake! I am glad you are getting the thermostat and thermometer, let us know what the readings were and are once you get it set up.

One question - I bought a ghost motley corn snake today and he has been very aggressive and dose not want to be touched so I have fed him a pinkie today and that went well but don't know what is up with the aggressive behavier?? Please help

My best advice is to be patient. Young animals are prone to being nervous, but think about it... look how tiny your snake is and how big you are. It's pretty easy to see the issue. Let him get used to his new home first, the new surroundings and smells before trying to handle him again. Especially now that you fed him. You don't want to chance a regurge.

Thanks so much so glad I found this app so helpful is there anything else I need - tank, air vents, heating pad, lighting, bedding, wooden cave over heating pad and on opposite side the water bowl ?? It's that all?? And my heat is sitting at 28* degrees ??

And the shop I bought him at fed him 3pinkies yesterday which I thought was way to many?? Usually 1-2 a week?? And when I got him this morning he had regurged all 3pinkies so that's why I fed him that 1 pinkie this afternoon cause I actually thought he was hungry but his aggression is still the same so I'm feeling rather helpless at the moment and worried cause my candy cane corn snake passed away on Friday which I had for 3days so I'm very worried about everything

Make sure you read as much as possible on here. It's a little time consuming and there is a lot, but generally, you need a warm side and a cool side. my warm side is about 83°F and the cool is around 76°F. Generally with corns you don't need a heat lamp unless the room it's in gets really cold.

Rule #1. NEVER feed a corn snake after a regurge. It's very dangerous for the snake because it takes a long time after it regurges to right it's stomach. My advice to you? Read about regurges and basic care as much as possible before you do anything else. In addition, I wouldn't have advised you to get another snake so quickly after your last one died. Are you using the same tank it was in?
