Best Week Ever **DUW**

That's awesome you got to reconnect with your son. My dad used to always say family are the only people you can really count on throughout your whole life. Then he moved me half across the country from ours. Well.. let's just say your story is inspirational to me (even though mine is no where near as extreme as I'm imagining yours to be)..

Great shots, did your son just happen to be a photographer as well, or was he taking photos for the heck of it with you?

He loves photography. Took classes in high school and everything. Through the military, he was in both Iraq and Afghanistan, but didn't have a camera. He didn't have a camera when he came home, either, so I gave him a couple of old film cameras and lenses I used when I was a teen. He's gonna spend the next couple of months traveling around, and we both figured the cameras would be handy to have. But photography and reptiles have always been a passion of his, just like they are of mine. It was really neat!

Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to look and comment!

It's always cool to see reunions. Especially after so long. Have fun catching up and hope your future relationship is as great as your week was.

Also tell him thanks for his service.

I am so happy for you. That is wonderful. I don't know exactly where Mono Lake is, but I've just added it to the long list of places I want to visit.

That's awesome that you guys have similar hobbies/ interests. Must have been a GREAT time. If I had enough money to keep up with it I'd probably still be using a film camera as well. It's just so nice having something tangible instead of pixles, and I can lose whole days to the dark room and not even notice.

Good stuff!

Agreed! Our soldiers don't often get the thanks they deserve.

So cool that you were able to do this. My dad moved to Alaska when I was 4, and I haven't been able to spend much time with him since then. This spring, my brother got married in Finland, and my dad decided to take me on a 2 week trip through Europe culminating in the wedding event. It was an amazing time, I'm so glad I was finally able to spend some time with my dad. I hope your relationship continues to grow and strengthen over the years you have ahead of you.

The first conversation we ever had was about why his mother and I were never together.

Immediately following that was me thanking him for his service. And I made sure he knew that I would thank him for his service and appreciate his sacrifice regardless of how things worked out between us. 21 years old, and my son is more of a man than I will ever be. He was an explosives technician, and spent many months locating, disarming and destroying IEDs, land mines, and explosive munitions.

Thanks again, to everyone, for looking, commenting, and sharing in my experience. It's a fantastic new starting point for me, and my two kids...
