Box Turtle Enclosure: Progression Thread

Amazingly, I got a lot more done today after work. It's not as hard to work when it's 92F and not so humid as it is in the morning when it's 90% humidity. I still have to dig out the grass that's under the stones in the front. I have about 25 left to put down.

This is the salvia garden. After I planted the two on the left, (that had to be dug up and moved because the patio was off just a little) I started getting hummingbirds! Butterflies and bumblebees love them, too. I'm going to try to put in a whole bunch of them. They are perenials, and a bunch are Florida natives.

That's a monkey off my back! I came in and was surprised to see I'd been at it for two hours. But I still need MORE stones. Like always. The space around the tree will be a garden. And I forgot to run irrigation out to it.

Remember the "bird bath" I made from the leaky faucet out at the well? I mowed and weed whacked out there today, and while I was trying to photograph Lily, saw a couple crows enjoying a bath and a drink!

I dug up the base of that red oak and filled it in with Moisture Max soil, and planted something called Hidden Ginger Lilies, or Curcumas. I've never had them before. They are tropical, but supposed to be ok up to zone 8. But it seems to run cold here in my yard, so I don't know it they will over-winter or not. Still- they are very pretty! I brought over a drip sprinkler from the Terra Pen line, and another one out of a row of crape myrtles along the back of the house, which waters all the trees in the back, so they should have plenty of water! And I think I decided where to put the rescue tree. It's just too hot to dig a 30 gallon hole right now.

Nanci, that is just wonderful. The perfect oasis. It just looks inviting,...I wouldn't ever want to go to work. But I am sure coming home to it is like finding it anew everyday.

Bella and her pallet. LOLOL. She's probably well on her way to forgetting that she's a dog. Cheers me up just to look at it all.
 
I guess I needed a 50 gallon water garden container...This is my third; they keep getting bigger! Can't wait to buy something for it, but for now I have plenty of water lettuce!!

Now I just need some more plants! And I can't get any till next payday, in two weeks...I'm out there right now, paging through all my water garden books! So relaxing. I'm trying to figure out what kind of fountain I want for that 50 gallon. Just something drippy that makes noise. And I'd like to put a couple pretty potted plants around the edge of it. And something for the border of the patio itself. And the new salvias...
