Yep.....

Bill Nelson (D) Florida has proposed a ban on importing large snakes and to make it illegal to cross state lines with them.

He says the 150,000 to 200,000 wild Burmese are a huge problem for the ecosystem. Do you think the number is that high?
 
Oh god no, but reproduction in the wild could make that a reality...however the damage is done in that sense.

He wasn't off the wall eccentric, and I at least appreciate that he stated it was his personal view, but I agree, ignorance is treason, and unfortunately he probably shares a relatively common point of view.
Snakes don't squeeze your hand in an attempt to kill you, they don't even bite in an attempt to kill you. They have no appendages, they have to use a tight grip to hang on, and biting is their only defense against people forcefully invading their space.

SOMEHOW?! It was kept in the tank using a mattress and ropes! It had escaped THE NIGHT BEFORE!

Lauren, me too...my language would be out of control if I replied with my true heart on this matter. I am very upset at the stupidity of non herpers...just like with the Pit Bulls! There is always someones out there to give any "pet" in the trade a bad name!

It is very tragic about the child thats for sure. Yet, how the heck did they not keep an eye on a 2 yr. Especially knowing the snake was out :shrugs: :mad:

Be strong my fellow herpers! Keep the faith and educate as many people as you can with proper information and knowledge.
