Cage sizes

It's been some time since I've been back on here. Question for the pros. What size vivs do you use for your adults? I've been keeping my '11 in the large plastic shoe boxes that i've seen a lot of breeders use and they just dont seem to be growing at the rate I would expect.

I'll post picture when I can

Cage size will have little or no effect on growth, food is responsible for that. I keep my adults in 33.5" X 17.5" Freedom Breeder tubs.

I am guessing you are going the tub way, not the viv way. i use glass tanks, starting with a 10 gallon for my little guys, and move up as necessary. I find that height is not as important as the size of the bottom. They like to explore and need plenty of room to check out.

Hey Chip, you have a link for the place that sells those? I'm moving mine up soon. I'm assuming you have a rack system for the tubs?

Nevermind, found their site through simple google search. Is there such thing as a rack that has locking capabilities? Just curious as I have a five year old who I know will be that, "curious" kid. Even though he is very well behaved. Just know that kids will be kids.

Lots of racks can be easily modified to lock, even if they don't have an option for that at the manufacturer. Basically you just need a vertical bar in front that prevents the tubs from being slid out. Exactly what you use & how you attach it doesn't matter much, although some methods might work with certain brands of racks but not others. Whether you use it just as a sort of childproofing, or put an actual lock on it is also up to you. Some methods of doing it would be easier to add an actual lock than others.

In case you don't understand what I mean, here is a video where you can see an example. Look at about 4:20 to see the bar being removed in order to slid a tub out.

I have mine in 24"x24"x16" (divided PVC vive). I say, if they stretch out completely along one length and one width of the vive, it is a good fit. If not, time to move up sizes!
