Calls to boycott Arizona are spreading like a virus

Beth and Wade I agree. JP in Maryland far from the southern border we have an enormous problem with illegal immigration, job loss, and the strains this puts on education. Programs like ESOL cost our county millions a year alone to teach children to speak English so they can navigate our educational system. Interpreters also cost hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, printing news letters in two languages, resource classes that should be for disabled children like my son instead are used to teach non English speaking children and also cost well over a million a year in Montgomery County alone where I live, programs like head start have gone from being low income prekindergarten to Spanish speaking only classrooms, and so on. These wastes of resources which by the way are limited take away from our children and have caused shortages of interpreters, ESOL and resource teachers due to budget cuts because of the sheer number of illegals in need. If you don't consider this a problem I'm pretty much at a loss. Public school educational systems have struggled for adequate funding since their start and adding programs for non English speaking kids only further reduces what is left to give not to mention overcrowds already crowded schools. I guess you have forgotten I am a 2nd generation American so I'm not sure where your comment about me having problems with cultures mixing comes from- I have a problem with people who come here illegally, don't pay taxes (though you swear the majority do which is a load of bull), refuse to learn the language, get free health care, education, housing, and other benefits, and then act like they are entitled to stay illegally. Thats my problem! My family got sponsors, paid their fees, filed their paperwork, WAITED PATIENTLY, and came here legally- completely different and having nothing to do with the mixing of cultures. FYI this is America a melting pot of cultures I'd be in the wrong country if that were my problem:)

As for your argument that illegals do not take away jobs from our country are you serious? Lets talk macroeconomics then. You think our unemployment rate coincides with the overall supply of jobs right now and I actually agree there. We are in a recession, businesses cut back on jobs to save their bottom lines as people spend less in the economy, and as a result there are fewer jobs to go around- not complicated to me. However, when any country has 19 million extra people legal or not jobs must be spread around to a greater number of people to keep unemployment rates stable, but when jobs are decreased and the number of people demanding a job does not unemployment rises. So if we had 19 million fewer people we would have several million extra jobs available meaning no illegal immigrants=more job availability- also not complicated.

I will agree we have a number of illegals here who have overstayed their visas, but their still illegal. We also have people rafting in from the south, tunneling, walking, running.....to come illegally. If we crack down on our borders eliminating those who try to cross illegally we cut down on our illegal immigration problem and if we crack down on businesses that hire illegals we force many to go back home also cutting down on our illegal immigration problem. This is how EVERY other country deals with immigration why can't we? In Canada their workforce departments are tied into their immigration departments making it almost impossible to work as an illegal immigrant and check out how many fewer illegals they have then us. No system will ever be perfect and illegal immigration will never be entirely eradicated, but we could do a lot better than we are now.

JP Do you see any negative side effects of illegal immigration on our economy and country at all?

Thanks for your response Danielle.

I did forget you are a second generation American. Like I said, forgive me if I jumped into conclusion there. I can see how you would be frustrated with all the things you listed, but how would that be the fault of an American child who happens to just speak Spanish (perhaps due to illegal immigrant parents)? Your message addressed those kids slowing English speakers down, and that is where I drawn my conclusion from.

I provided reports that say illegal immigrants do pay taxes. I am not the one putting those reports together, therefore I am not swearing they do pay taxes, I am just sharing the information I have on the topic.

As for illegals taking jobs from Americans, I agree with you - if we didn't have 12 million people in the work force illegally we could have more Americans working. BUT, deportation of 12 million, as we agreed before, can't happen. And if you were not referring to deportation, then what to do with the illegal workers? Should we give their work to legal workers? Wouldn't that make the "black market" bigger? Wouldn't that slow down the economy due to the learning curve/reduction in productivity?

I agree with your last paragraph... We need an immigration reform that fix all the points you pointed out.

Good question your presented: I am not pro illegal immigration. I think it should stop (border security and the development of a document that can't be counterfeited that works for employment). But I think the immigration system needs to be completely redone. Visa quotas, workers program, permanent residency, etc. Everything.
Illegal immigrants already here have some negative effects. Many do work "under the table" bringing wages down. Many refuse to assimilate into the American culture. BUT (I always follow with "but" don't I?) people can work under the table being here legally to avoid taxes, and the problem with assimilation of the culture would be somewhat addressed in the proposed immigration reform (learn English for example).

Please let me know if you want me to expand in any point. I am running out of time here at work, kinda rushing to answer.

Thanks for the Rep, I always pay back.

I just got this in an email from a friend that lives in AZ. It is interesting.

We, in Arizona, know you're boycotting us -- but you really should come out here and see our Beautiful Sonoran Desert.

It's just gorgeous right now! We know you'd love it and maybe you can share what you saw with the rest of the country so they can love it too!

This is on an 'illegal super - highway' from Mexico to the USA (Tucson) used by human smugglers.

This area is located in a wash, approximately 1.5 miles long, just south of Tucson, Arizona. If a flood came, all this would be washed to the river and then onto the sea!

It is estimated over 5,000 discarded backpacks are in this wash. Countless water containers, food wrappers, clothing, feces, including thousands of soiled baby diapers. And as you can see in this picture, fresh footprints leading right into it.

As we kept walking down the wash, we thought for sure it was going to end, but around every corner was more and more trash!

And of course the trail leading out of the wash in our city, heads directly NORTH to Tucson, then leads to your town tomorrow.

They've already come through here. Isn't Arizona just beautiful, America?

Why would you boycott us???

Our desert has basically been turned into a landfill.

The trash left behind by people illegally crossing our border is another Environmental Disaster to hit the USA.
If these actions had been done in one of our Northwest Forests or Seashore National Parks areas, there would be an uprising of the American people.....but this is the Arizona-Mexican border.
You won't see these pictures on CNN, ABC, NBC or the Arizona Republic Repugnant newspaper. Nor will they mention the disease that comes from the uncovered human waste left in our desert.

However, with respect to CNN, ABC & NBC, they do offer us "Special Reports" on cheating celebrity spouses....
This information needs to be seen by the rest of the country.
"It's not about Right vs Left, Liberal vs. Conservative, Republican vs. Democrat . It's about supporting the US Constitution"

Hmmm... this looks like my parents back yard.

THIS is why Mexico is not successful. I am not saying everyone there is this way, but the majority are. It is extremely difficult to change a culture where it is the norm to take advantage of others, not care what is right or wrong except for what effects yourself and attempts, at all costs, to dodge responsibility.

This was re-enforced to me when I traveled to Mexico and an 8 year old was attempting to sell me Porn.

JP what is your stake in this? Tell me your parents are illegal or you are. Why have you chosen to be the spokesman for the down trodden? You know we have Mexicans here on this forum who disagree with you. Which dog do you have in this race?

Yes, people fighting to stay alive in the desert should carry their trash with them...

They shouldn't be in our desert on their way to take advantage of our system in the first place. Not only are they trashing our economy and education systems, they are also trashing our environment.

Funny how you disregard my requests to prove me wrong and yet you can question my personal reasons why I take the position that I take.

I will not disregard you post.

Tell me your parents are illegal or you are.
Was this supposed to be a question or an affirmation?

If it was a question, the answer is neither.
If it was an affirmation, you are wrong and you lack evidence.

Why have you chosen to be the spokesman for the down trodden?

Because I can... Because I like to engage in debates. Like I said before, it is fascinating to see how people's mind work... And because I don't agree with the AZ law in the first place (the reason for me to start this thread).

You know we have Mexicans here on this forum who disagree with you.

And you know we have Americans here on this forum who disagree with you.

Which dog do you have in this race?

As an owner of 2 ex-racing greyhounds, I am against dog racing. ;)

I agree that something needs to be done about that.

Wade, evidently JP has really taken a shine to you. Imitation is the highest form of flattery.

Let me go fetch Mr. Dave,...so he can put a wiggle in JP's tail.

JP good to see there is some common ground between us. I don't think the US should deport 12-19 million illegals at all it's too costly. Instead I think they should fine the living crap out of any employer willing to hire an illegal/visa overstayer (made up word;) ) reducing illegals in the work force from fear of hefty fines. Employers who hire those here on visa know when it expires and can periodically check on their status for free- it's a phone call:)This would force poverty among those here illegally and send them home where they could fairly and legally start the process to come here like ALL other legal immigrants did. I think instating a firing squad on our border would eliminate those coming on foot/boat because after they knew we were serious about shooting on sight they may look to those legal means to get here. It took my parents around 3 years which sure is a wait- but is automatic gratification an entitlement in the US? My entire immigrant family can't stand illegals from any country because they feel it is disrespectful to everyone else who "paid their dues", and so do I":( My family left poverty, political instability, and near starvation to come here and be spit on by natural born Americans, harassed, discriminated against, and passed up for countless jobs because of their ethnicity. Their hardships getting here and assimilating are the reason my children and I can live here in freedom, become educated, work, and call ourselves Americans. I don't think it's too much to ask the next person to do the same with some appreciation and respect for what they are being given by legally immigrating here.

I can't argue immigrating here is easy or fast because its not, but immigrants these days don't face half the persecution they did 50 years ago the least they can do is honor every other legal immigrant who knows exactly what its like, and come here the right way.

Terrific post Danielle. Very well said. Your family has done something to be proud of, quite different than sneaking across the boarder in the night. Makes you appreciate how special it is to be an American. I'm very impressed.

JP it was a simple question, I was curious why this is such an issue for you. I have been on vacation for a week but upon my return I find it is still you against the world. That made me wonder why it was so important to you.

I don't feel obligated to answer every question posed to me, I don't which one you refer to. One type of question that I often ignore is when someone makes a statement and then says prove me wrong. I don't feel the need to do the research for you, prove yourself correct.

Before I left on my vacation I commented that you were a very polite debater. I can see some of the shinny is wearing off. Sorry if my question upset you. Was not my intention.

JP...I have been on vacation for a week but upon my return I find it is still you against the world. .

Not true. I personally agree with him. I gave up because really what can you say to people that think it's OK to KILL someone for illegally entering the country. To me that is a sad waste of human life. I can't participate in an argument when this is the mass sheep ugly mentality of the opponents. JP has the gift to be able to remain calm and continue to debate in a civil manner. Who care what JP's reasons are, just Kudos to him for being able to keep his cool. He is NOT alone in his way of thinking!!!

I don't like the mass sheep mentality either Jen and I for one would not support that idea. The problem needs to be dealt with but I believe that is a little extreme.

Sorry if this has been posted already...

http://www.mmdnewswire.com/arizona-immigration-bill-8558.html
May 21, 2010 (MMD Newswire) -- One of America's national organizations fighting against illegal immigration is announcing that 17 states are now filing versions of Arizona's SB 1070 law which is designed to help local police enforce America's existing immigration laws.

Numerous national and local polls indicated that 60-81% of Americans support local police enforcing immigration laws.

"Our national network of activists have been working overtime trying to help the state of Arizona and the brave Arizonans who have passed this bill," said William Gheen, President of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC. "Arizona no longer stands alone and we have now documented state lawmakers filing, or announcing they will file, versions of the Arizona bill in seventeen states! We will not stop until all states are protected from invasion as required by the US Constitution."

ALIPAC has documented the following 17 states are following Arizona's lead in response to citizen pressure.

ARKANSAS, IDAHO, INDIANA, MARYLAND, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEBRASKA, NEVADA, NEW JERSEY, OHIO, OKLAHOMA, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA, TEXAS, UTAH

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) has helped to pass some form of immigration enforcement legislation in over 30 states, while the group has also gained a national reputation for defeating legislation designed to give licenses, in-state tuition, and other taxpayer benefits to illegal aliens in 20 states.

ALIPAC's President, William Gheen is a former campaign consultant, Legislative Assistant, state lobbyist, and Assistant Sgt-At-Arms staffer in North Carolina who has turned his local experiences into a political battle plan by driving the national operations of ALIPAC.

"The Federal government has been hijacked by special interests that are neglectful of their duties and even hostile towards the rightful citizens of America," said William Gheen. "It is incumbent upon our states to protect American lives, property, jobs, wages, security, and health, when the Executive Branch fails to honor its Constitutional responsibility to do so by enforcing our existing border and immigration laws."

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC lobbied state lawmakers and AZ Governor Jan Brewer to pass SB 1070, which strictly prohibits racial profiling while empowering local police officers to enforce immigration laws.

ALIPAC's activists have been working for almost four weeks now to encourage state lawmakers across the nation to file versions of SB 1070, to help alleviate boycotts and other political antagonism towards Arizona. Citizen activist are being asked to call, e-mail, visit, and fax their state lawmakers to encourage them to support existing SB 1070 type bills or to file them as soon as possible.

For a list of the 17 states joining Arizona's push for this kind of legislation, and to view the associated documentation, please visit our tracking link for updated information at.... http://www.alipac.us/ftopict-196989.html

I'm glad Maryland is on there it's about time. For those who feel the mass sheep mentality is insane I'm sorry if it offends you. The problem is what else can our country do to reverse the negative effects of illegal immigration? I have discussed the impact in my counties local schools, our crime rate, and economic impact locally. These problems can't just continue to be ignored. Our country has set up legal means to come here and helps legal immigrants find jobs, housing, free english classes, health care, and educates their children which I think is great. I don't think it's great when people hop the border and use old SS#'s to glean these benefits because it takes away from those who took the time to get here the right way. The pot is only so big and when people take those funds away from those who earned them how do you think it makes them feel?

We have tried deportation which has proved ineffective and expensive, we have tried to up border security which has also proved ineffective and expensive, Bush tried to allow illegals a one time reprieve if they just admitted they were illegal and began the process of staying legally and that didn't work so well either. So what is our country supposed to do turn a blind eye?

What I don't get is why illegals don't see the benefits of being a legal citizen. Your opportunities are boundless once your a citizen and the sky is your limit. Working under the table for less than minimum wage, using fake documents, and hoping you don't get caught is no way to live and only allows our country to exploit you and keep you down. People keep saying the process is so long and hard- but it just isn't that hard unless patience is impossible for you. Our country even has multiple associations to help immigrants finance their legal journey here, find sponsors, and navigate the paperwork process which is something that wasn't available to my family and many others. No one here has said they don't want people to immigrate here- we just want it done in a legal fashion to prevent the exploitation of these people and ensure they pay taxes and are subject to our laws the same as we are:)

I really believe that most of the complaints and concerns about what might happen in Arizona are unfounded and people are worrying about things that are not in the new law. I think the reason the AZ Governor made the video above is to get people to read the law and find out what is says and stop worrying about what is doesn't say.
