Hybrid Snake Lover
A little bit about me.... I'm a veteran. I love my earth. I love my children. I'm on of a few to earn the coveted or not so coveted Dead Mans Hand Coin from the AFIP. I earned one of these after I volunteered to assist with countless autopsies on my fellow soldiers. I've compiled a few pictures to show what I find important in my life for those that are interested in trying to get to know me. I've obviously selected a few military pictures as that is a large part of who I am. The one of me in Brussels, I am standing beside Mr. Ahmad, a cancer patient that refused to have anyone other than me draw his blood. A good friend and he will always be missed. The young fellow in his dress greens to the far right... is my son youngest son. The picture of the orange family, thats a picture of us adopting a road. I try to instill a sense of wonder, pride, and love of life in my my children. I try to keep my children out of harms way, another reason I tried to talk my youngest son from going into the military. In short, I am much like many of you.
I fell in love with corn snakes back when the towers fell and my daughter was being born. I was extremely lucky as she was a premie, 1lb 10oz's and Shands Hospital was one of the best hospitals for premies.... very lucky to be so close... luck... that was it. Lucky that these charming snakes could take my mind off of my worries when I was denied visits. Happenstance and nothing more... So, I visited a snake shop that had many corns and of course the only snakes I was interested in were the hybrids of some of the corns. This reptile shop in Gainesville, Florida that was my reprieve for the hours drive it took me to get to my daughter... when things were not so good or sure. Years have passed and I am now free of the constraints of the military and I am again looking into those snakes I fell in love with so many years ago. Those memories from not so long ago... they spark feeling and emotion for me and I'd be remiss if I did not share this little bit about me with those of you who care to listen. There is something in taking care of someone else or something else that is deeply healing and satisfying. Something so simple as the act of watching a snake be a snake or a child being a child. The act of caring for another entity is a healing. Walking and talking and being as incoherent as I am at times I can only hope to enjoy a few pictures here, share some memories, and perhaps share a moment or two of happiness.:sidestep::madeuce::blowup:

More smiling friends. Thats what life is about, its about making those connections and finding someone or hopefully a whole group of someone's you can really piss off. :nyah: We would pull stupid pranks on each other. Fill each others kevlar with water and freeze... you get the idea. Always pranking each other.

I absolutely love Steven Hawking susang! "I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road."

Welcome! I love your family photo of adopting a road. It looks exactly like something my family would do!

What hybrids are your favorite? How many snakes do you have?

Welcome to the forum! I come from a huge military family as well, so Thank you for your service. You will find that this forum is full of veterans and it has proved that snakes can be great for PTSD. I loved the story on how you fell in love with corns. It sure does explain your deep love for hybrids.

Can anyone id these for me? If I do well with this one I plan on buying a few quality corn snakes, but this is my beginner corn snake and I've grown quite fond of her. I'm hoping that I can continue to learn from the many experts on this site. So far, I've only fed her pinkies and 1 fuzzie so she is still very young. Its been about 6 days since her last fuzzie in this picture. Thanks for your help!

hello and welcome! I loved reading your story about how you got into corns.. my grand father served in the war.. so I too thank you for your work out on the feild aswell!

and what cute little one you have their! I know what you mean by growing fond of them.. I feel like I should I gotten my scale baby YEARS ago! :D he makes me smile atleast once a day.

Thank you for your help Nancy and Buzzard. So being an amel is pretty common from what I gather while zigzag is selectively bred for and thus probably the result of multiple genes. Am I right? How hard is the zigzag trait to breed for? Breeding to a non zigzag and back to a good zigzag... how many zigzags if any would one get?

Thanks for your warm welcome Justine66 and yes, I am addicted to corn snakes. I can only see my collection growing in proportion to the knowledge I gain here on this forum in the not too distant future. My little baby is shedding so perhaps that explains why she wouldn't take her fuzzie today. I would have thought she was starving as its been over a week since she ate her last fuzzie.
