cedar stand?

im building a stand for my boys viv and ive been trying to decide what type of lumber to use for a long time. ive finally found what ive been looking for.....aromatic cedar. beautiful wood! i know cedar is an unhealthy substrate choice but what about being in the close vicinity? i was planning on leaving it unfinished, and it has a very distinct, strong smell (hence the aromatic part). i love this stuff so much but i wouldn't use it if it wasnt good for seth.

I'm not sure. To be safe I wouldn't use it. There are lots of other woods that aren't aromatic that would work just fine and be 100% safe - I would go for one of those.

well i guess im off to the lumberyard again :shrugs:
i really dont want to take any chances. ill see what else they have for fancy wood there. ill post pics when im done :) thanks

Gotta love a keeper who puts the animals' best interests above human taste! You're right to rethink the cedar. Current science says that the aromatic compounds are exactly what causes the problems for pets. It's cool that you're building your stand yourself. Wish I could do that...

i found my alternative materials! muuuch nicer than that cedar, and serpent friendly :crazy02:

it was all i could do in a day to figure out all the cuts and stick some of it together. tomorrow maybe i will get a little more welding done and then save the rest for next weekend. thanks for the advice everyone.
